Removal and Replacement
REMOVAL1. REMOVE FRONT DOOR SCUFF PLATE
a. Using a screwdriver, remove the front door scuff plate.
HINT: Tape the screwdriver tip before use.
b. Employ the same manner described above to the other side.
2. REMOVE FRONT DOOR OPENING COVERS
Using a screwdriver, remove the front door opening covers.
HINT: Tape the screwdriver tip before use.
3. REMOVE COWL SIDE TRIM
a. Remove the clip and pull the cowl side trim rearward to remove it.
b. Employ the same manner described above to the other side.
4. REMOVE FRONT PILLAR GARNISH
a. Using a screwdriver, remove the front pillar garnish.
HINT: Tape the screwdriver tip before use.
b. Employ the same manner described above to the other side.
5. REMOVE STEERING WHEEL PAD
6. REMOVE STEERING WHEEL
7. REMOVE STEERING COLUMN UPPER AND LOWER COVERS
8. REMOVE COMBINATION SWITCH WITH SPIRAL CABLE
9. REMOVE NO.1 LOWER PANEL
a. Remove the 2 screws and hood lock control lever, then disconnect the hood lock control cable.
b. Remove the bolt, screw and No.1 lower panel.
c. Disconnect the connector.
10. REMOVE LOWER PANEL INSERT
Remove the 4 bolts and lower panel insert.
11. REMOVE NO.2 UNDER COVER
Using a screwdriver, remove the No.2 under cover.
HINT: Tape the screwdriver tip before use.
12. DISCONNECT AIRBAG CONNECTOR
a. Using a screwdriver, pry out the glove compartment door finish plate inside the lower panel.
HINT: Tape the screwdriver tip before use.
b. Remove the connector from the glove compartment door finish plate.
c. Disconnect the airbag connector.
NOTE: When disconnecting the airbag connector, take care not to damage the airbag wire harness.
13. REMOVE NO.2 LOWER PANEL
Remove the bolt, 4 screws and No.2 lower panel.
14. REMOVE FRONT PASSENGER AIRBAG ASSEMBLY
a. Remove the thermistor connector clamp.
b. Remove the 2 nuts for connecting the front passenger air- bag assembly to the instrument panel.
Torque: 4.8 N.m (49 kgf.cm, 42 in.lbf)
c. Remove the 2 bolts for mounting the front passenger air- bag assembly.
Torque: 20 N.m (205 kgf.cm, 15 ft.lbf)
d. Remove the 2 bolts and No.1 airbag passenger mount bracket.
Torque: 20 N.m (205 kgf.cm, 15 ft.lbf)
e. Remove the airbag straps, as shown in the illustration.
1. Remove the nut and airbag strap on the outer side.
2. Slide the front passenger airbag assembly to the outer side of the vehicle.
3. Remove the nut and airbag strap on the inner side.
f. Remove the front passenger airbag assembly from the instrument panel.
CAUTION:
- Do not store the front passenger airbag assembly with the airbag deployment side facing down.
- Never disassemble the front passenger airbag assembly.
NOTE: When removing the front passenger airbag assembly, take care not to damage the wire harness.
15. REMOVE LOWER FINISH PANEL
Using a screwdriver, remove the lower finish panel.
HINT: Tape the screwdriver tip before use.
16. REMOVE UPPER CONSOLE PANEL
a. Using a screwdriver, remove the upper console panel.
HINT: Tape the screwdriver tip before use.
b. Disconnect the connector.
17. REMOVE CENTER CLUSTER FINISH PANEL
a. Remove the ash receptacle box.
b. Remove the clip.
c. Using a screwdriver, remove the center cluster finish panel.
HINT: Tape the screwdriver tip before use.
d. Disconnect the connector.
18. REMOVE HEATER CONTROL ASSEMBLY
19. REMOVE RADIO ASSEMBLY
a. Remove the 4 screws and radio assembly.
b. Disconnect the connectors and cable.
20. REMOVE REAR CONSOLE BOX
a. Remove the box bottom carpet.
b. Remove the 2 bolts, 2 screws and rear console box.
21. REMOVE FRONT CONSOLE BOX
Remove the 2 screws and front console box.
22. REMOVE CLUSTER FINISH PANEL
Remove the 2 screws and cluster finish panel.
23. REMOVE COMBINATION METER
a. Remove the 4 screws and combination meter.
b. Disconnect the connectors.
24. REMOVE LOWER N0.1 RETAINERS
Remove the 4 bolts and lower No.1 retainers.
25. REMOVE STEERING COLUMN
26. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL SAFETY PAD
a. Using a screwdriver, remove the No.2 side defroster nozzle.
HINT: Tape the screwdriver tip before use.
b. Using a screwdriver, remove the bolt cap.
HINT: Tape the screwdriver tip before use.
c. Disconnect the connectors.
d. Remove the J/B set bolts.
e. Remove the 2 bolts, nuts and pull the instrument panel safety pad rearward to remove it.
27. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL J/B
Remove the bolt, 2 nuts and instrument panel J/B from the reinforcement.
28. REMOVE NO.2 BRACE
Remove the 2 nuts and No.2 brace.
29. REMOVE NO.1 BRACE
a. Disengage the clamps.
b. Remove the nut and brace mount bracket.
c. Remove the 4 nuts and No.1 brace.
30. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL REINFORCEMENT
Remove the 3 bolts, 4 nuts and instrument panel reinforcement.
31. REMOVE REINFORCEMENT BRACKET
Remove the bolt, 2 nuts and bracket.
INSTALLATION
Installation is in the reverse order of removal
