Safety Features
Safety Features1. General
The impact absorbing structure of the '03 Corolla Matrix can effectively help absorb the energy of impact in the event of a front or side collision~ This structure also realizes high-performance occupant protection through the use of reinforcements and members that help to minimize cabin deformation~
2. Impact Absorbing f~r Frontal Collision
^ The right and left side members are joined by a cross member, and the rear ends of the side members are connected to the rocker, thus creating a structure that absorbs the impact by dissipating the energy to both sides.
^ Differential-thickness sheet metal is used at the front end of the front side members. The thinner front portion and the thicker rear portion enable the front end of the side members to collapse efficiently in order to effectively absorb the impact energy.
3. Impact Absorbing for Side Collision
^ Differential-thickness sheet metal is used at the center pillar. This construction minimizes cabin deformation.
^ One side impact protection beam is provided in each front door and two side impact protection beams are provided in each rear door. Furthermore, reinforcement is optimally located along the belt line to ensure the proper strength of the door.
^ A Head Impact Protection Structure has been adopted. With this type of structure, if the occupant's head hits against the roof side rail and pillar in a collision, the rib of Energy Absorbing Material(Resin) placed between the pillar garnish and the inner pillar panel collapses to help absorb the impact.
