Component Tightening Specifications and Sequences





Using several steps, loosen the 8 cylinder head bolts uniformly in the sequence shown in the illustration. Remove the 8 cylinder head bolts and the plate washers





Using several steps, install and tighten the 8 cylinder head bolts uniformly in the sequence shown in the illustration.
Torque 54 Nm (550 kgf-cm, 40 ft. lbs.)





INSTALL INTAKE MANIFOLD
Install the intake manifold with the 9 bolts and the 2 nuts. Using several steps, tighten the bolts and the nuts uniformly in the sequence shown in the illustration.
Retighten the 2 bolts and 2 nuts of the water outlet.
Torque 15 Nm (153 kgf-cm, 11 ft. lbs.)
Retighten the water outlet mounting bolts and nuts.
Torque 15 Nm (153 kgf-cm, 11 ft. lbs.)
Install the ground cable with the nut.
Torque 8.4 Nm (86 kgf-cm, 74 inch lbs.)
Connect the heater water inlet hose B





Using several steps, tighten the 10 bearing cap bolts uniformly in the sequence shown in the illustration.
Torque 16 Nm (163 kgf-cm, 12 ft. lbs.)

REMOVE CRANKSHAFT





Using several steps, loosen and remove the 8 main bearing cap bolts and seal washers uniformly in the sequence shown in the illustration.





Using several steps, loosen and remove the 16 main bearing cap bolts uniformly in the sequence shown in the illustration





Using several steps, install and tighten the 16 main bearing cap bolts uniformly in the sequence shown in the illustration.
Torque 22 Nm (224 kgf-cm, 16 ft. lbs.)

Temporarily install the crankshaft pulley bolt and the washer to the crankshaft.
Turn the crankshaft counterclockwise by approximately 60°. Using SST, turn the crankshaft pulley, and align the timing marks of the timing pulley and the No. 3 timing belt cover.
SST 09960-10010 (09962-01000, 09963-01000)

INSTALL CRANKSHAFT PULLEY
Align the keyway of the pulley with the key located on the crankshaft and slide the pulley into place.
Using SST, install the pulley bolt.
SST 09213-54015 (91651-60855), 09330-00021
Torque 220 Nm (2,250 kgf-cm, 162 ft. lbs.)

Install the flywheel housing under cover with the 2 bolts.
Torque 7.8 Nm (80 kgf-cm, 69 inch lbs.)





Install the oil pump with the 9 bolts. Tighten the bolts uniformly in several steps.
Torque:
Bolt A 8.0 Nm (82 kgf-cm, 71 inch lbs.)
Bolt B 20 Nm (199 kgf-cm, 14 ft. lbs.)
Bolt C 43 Nm (439 kgf-cm, 32 ft. lbs.)




INSTALL EXHAUST MANIFOLD SUB-ASSY RH (2WD DRIVE TYPE)
Install a new gasket and the exhaust manifold RH with the 6 nuts. Using several steps, tighten the nuts uniformly in the sequence shown in the illustration.
Torque 49 Nm (500 kgf-cm, 36 ft. lbs.)
Retighten nut 1 and 2 shown in the illustration.





INSTALL EXHAUST MANIFOLD CONVERTER SUB-ASSY (4WD DRIVE TYPE)
Install a new gasket and the exhaust manifold RH with the 6 nuts. Using several steps, tighten the nuts uniformly in the sequence shown in the illustration.
Torque 49 Nm (500 kgf-cm, 36 ft. lbs.)





INSTALL EXHAUST MANIFOLD CONVERTER SUB-ASSY NO.2
Install a new gasket and the exhaust manifold converter No.2 with the 6 nuts and bolt. Using several steps, tighten the nuts uniformly in the sequence shown in the illustration.
Torque 49 Nm (500 kgf-cm, 36 ft. lbs.)
Retighten nut 1 and 2 shown in the illustration.
INSTALL EXHAUST MANIFOLD HEAT INSULATOR NO.2
Torque 8.5 Nm (87 kgf-cm, 75 inch lbs.)
INSTALL MANIFOLD CONVERTER INSULATOR NO.3
Torque 8.5 Nm (87 kgf-cm, 75 inch lbs.)

INSTALL WATER PUMP ASSY
Install a new gasket and the water pump with the 3 bolts and the 3 nuts.
Torque 8.0 Nm (82 kgf-cm, 71 inch lbs.)
