INTRODUCTION:
Under certain driving conditions, some 2003 - 2004 model year 4 cylinder 2RZ-FE (ATM and MTM) and 3RZ-FE (MTM only) Tacoma vehicles may exhibit a M.I.L. "ON" condition with DTC P0136 - Oxygen Sensor Circuit Malfunction (Bank 1, Sensor 2). The Engine Control Module (ECM) (SAE term: Power Control Module/PCM) has been modified to prevent this condition.
APPLICABLE VEHICLES:
- 2003 - 2004 model year Tacoma vehicles equipped with 2RZ-FE engine (ATM and MTM) and 3RZ-FE engine (MTM only).

REPAIR PROCEDURE:
1. Confirm the stored DTC using the Toyota Diagnostic Tester.
2. Refer to the ETAS, 2003 or 2004 model year Tacoma Repair Manual: Diagnostics: Engine (2RZ-FE, 3RZ-FE): P0136.
3. If NO trouble is found after performing the basic diagnostic checks for M.I.L. "ON" P0136, replace the Engine Control Module (ECM/PCM).
