Introduction

Under certain driving conditions, some 2003 - 2004 model year 4 cylinder 2RZ-FE (ATM and MTM) and 3RZ-FE (MTM only) Tacoma vehicles may exhibit a M.I.L. "ON" condition with DTC P0136 Oxygen Sensor Circuit Malfunction (Bank 1, Sensor 2). The Engine Control Module (ECM) (SAE term: Power Control Module/PCM) has been modified to prevent this condition.

^ 2003 - 2004 model year Tacoma vehicles equipped with 2RZ-FE engine (ATM and MTM) and 3RZ-FE engine (MTM only).

Warranty Information

Applicable Warranty*:

This repair is covered under the Toyota Specified Major Emission Control Component Warranty. This warranty is in effect for 96 months or 80,000 miles, whichever occurs first, from the vehicle's in-service date.

* Warranty application is limited to correction of a problem based upon a customer's specific complaint.





Required SSTs

Repair Procedure





1. Confirm the stored DTC using the Toyota Diagnostic Tester.

2. Refer to the Technical Information System (TIS), 2003 or 2004 model year Tacoma Repair Manual: Diagnostics: Engine (2RZ-FE, 3RZ-FE): P0136.

3. If NO trouble is found after performing the basic diagnostic checks for M.I.L. "ON" P0136, replace the Engine Control Module (ECM/PCM).
