Ignition Timing: Specifications

IGNITION TIMING

WARM UP ENGINE
Allow the engine to warm up to normal operating temperature.





CONNECT HAND-HELD TESTER OR OBD II SCAN TOOL
Connect the hand-held tester or OBD II scan tool to the DLC3.
Please refer to the hand-held tester or OBD II scan tool operator's for further details.
CHECK IDLE SPEED





CONNECT TIMING LIGHT
Connect the tester probe of a timing light to the black-red service wire in the J/B No. 1 as shown in the illustration.
INSPECT IGNITION TIMING





Using SST, connect terminals to TC and CG of the DLC3.

HINT: After engine rpm is kept at 1,000 - 1,500 rpm for 5 seconds, check that it returns to idle speed.





Using a timing light, check the ignition timing.
Ignition timing: 8 - 12° BTDC @ idle
Remove the SST from the DLC3.

FURTHER CHECK IGNITION TIMING
Ignition timing 6 - 15° BTDC @ idle

HINT: The timing mark moves in a range between 6° and 15°.
