Component Tightening Specifications and Sequences
Camshaft Bearing
Examine the front marks and numbers and check that the sequence order is as shown in the illustration. Then tighten the bolts.
Torque:
Bearing cap No. 1 23 Nm (235 kgf-cm, 17 ft. lbs.)
Bearing cap No. 3 13 Nm (133 kgf-cm, 10 ft. lbs.)

Cylinder Head Bolt
Standard overall length 156.0 - 159.0 mm (6.142 - 6.260 inch)
Maximum overall length 159.5 mm (6.280 inch)
Cylinder Head Bolt Torque and Sequence
Using a 10 mm bi-hexagon wrench, install and uniformly tighten the 10 cylinder head bolts and plate washers in several passes, in the sequence shown.
Torque 49 Nm (500 kgf-cm, 36 ft. lbs.)
Mark the front of the cylinder head bolt with paint.
Retighten the cylinder head bolts 90° in the numerical order shown.
Check that the painted mark is now at a 90° angle to the front.
Install the bolt holding the water bypass pipe to the cylinder head.
Torque 9 Nm (92 kgf-cm, 80 inch lbs.)
Camshaft Gear
Torque 54 Nm (551 kgf-cm, 40 ft. lbs.)
Connecting Rod Cap Bolts
Install and alternately tighten the 2 connecting rod cap bolts in several passes.
Torque 20 Nm (204 kgf-cm, 15 ft. lbs.)
Mark the front of the connecting cap bolts with paint.
Retighten the cap bolts by 90° as shown.
Check that the painted mark is now at a 90° angle to the front.
Crankshaft Main Bearing Cap Sub-assembly Bolts
INSPECT 12 POINTED HEAD BEARING CAP SUB-ASSEMBLY BOLTS
Using vernier calipers, measure the tension portion diameter of the bolt.
Standard diameter 7.3 - 7.5 mm (0.287 - 0.295 inch)
Minimum diameter 7.3 mm (0.287 inch)
If the diameter is less than minimum, replace the bolt.
INSTALL 12 POINTED HEAD BEARING CAP SUB-ASSEMBLY BOLTS
Install and uniformly tighten the 10 bearing cap subassembly bolts in several passes, in the sequence shown.
Torque 22 Nm (225 kgf-cm, 16 ft. lbs.)
Tighten the bearing cap subassembly bolts in several passes, in the sequence shown.
Torque 44 Nm (449 kgf-cm, 32 ft. lbs.)
Mark the front of the bearing cap subassembly bolts with paint.
Retighten the bearing cap subassembly bolts by 45° and additional 45° in the numerical order shown.
Check that the painted mark is now at a 90° angle to the front.
Crankshaft Pulley Bolt
Using SST, install the pulley bolt.
Torque 138 Nm (1,409 kgf-cm, 102 ft. lbs.)
Flywheel/Flex Plate
Install the flywheel on the crankshaft.
Install and uniformly tighten the 8 bolts in several passes, in the sequence shown.
Torque 49 Nm (500 kgf-cm, 36 ft. lbs.)
If any one of the bolts does not meet the torque specification, replace the bolt.
Mark the flywheel bolt with paint.
Retighten the flywheel bolts by an additional 90°.
Intake Manifold And Throttle Body Assembly
Install the intake manifold and throttle body assembly with the 2 brackets, 4 bolts and 2 nuts. Uniformly tighten the bolts and nuts in several passes.
Torque 30 Nm (306 kgf-cm, 22 ft. lbs.)
Exhaust Manifold
Install a new gasket and the exhaust manifold with the 5 nuts.
Torque 37 Nm (377 kgf-cm, 27 ft. lbs.)
Install the 2 exhaust manifold stays with the 4 bolts.
Torque 37 Nm (377 kgf-cm, 27 ft. lbs.)
Place the upper heat insulator on the exhaust manifold.
Install the 2 heated oxygen sensors.
Torque 44 Nm (450 kgf-cm, 32 ft. lbs.)
Water Pump
INSTALL WATER PUMP
Install the water pump with the 6 bolts.
Torque:
Bolt A 9 Nm (92 kgf-cm, 80 inch lbs.)
Bolt B 11 Nm (113 kgf-cm, 8 ft. lbs.)
Oil Pump
Oil pump body cover x Oil pump body 10.3 Nm (105 kgf-cm, 8 ft. lbs.)
Oil pump x Cylinder block 9 Nm (92 kgf-cm, 80 inch lbs.)
Relief Valve Plug 37 Nm (375 kgf-cm, 27 ft.lbs.)
