CAN COMMUNICATION SYSTEMDESCRIPTION
SYSTEM DESCRIPTION
a. The Controller Area Network (CAN) is a serial data communication system for real time application and also a multiplex communication system for a vehicle. In addition, the CAN has a high communication speed (500 kbps) and a function to detect a malfunction.
b. Pairing the CANH wire harness and CANL wire harness, the CAN performs communication based on the voltage difference.
c. The RAV4 uses the CAN communication system for communication between the following ECU and sensors in the ABS with EBD & BA & TRAC & VSC system.
- Skid control ECU
- Yaw rate sensor
- Steering angle sensor
d. The skid control ECU stores and outputs DTCs instead of the steering angle sensor and yaw rate sensor because they cannot store or output DTCs.
e. In the CAN communication system, 2 terminus circuits* which are necessary to communicate with the mainline are placed.
*: These circuits consist of a resistor and condenser. They convert the communication current of the CAN communication into bus voltage.
