Brake Bleeding: Service and Repair

BRAKE FLUID
BLEEDING

HINT: When working on the brake system or when air in the brake lines is suspected, bleed the air from the system.

NOTICE:
^ Bleed air in order of the chassis, 3rd chamber, and chassis.
^ When the air is bled from the 3rd chamber, be sure to run the engine.
^ If the brake fluid attaches to any painted surfaces, wash it off immediately.

1. REMOVE COWL TOP PANEL SUB-ASSEMBLY OUTER FRONT

2. FILL RESERVOIR WITH BRAKE FLUID
Fluid: SAE J1703 or FMVSS No. 116 DOT3

3. BLEED BRAKE LINE
a. Connect the vinyl tube to the brake caliper bleeder plug.
b. Depress the brake pedal several times, then loosen the bleeder plug with the pedal held down.
c. At the point when the fluid stops coming out, tighten the bleeder plug, then release the brake pedal.
d. Repeat (b) and (c) until all the air in the fluid has been bled out.
e. Repeat the above procedure to bleed the air out of the brake line for each wheel.
Torque: 8.3 Nm (85 kgf-cm, 73 inch lbs.)

4. BLEED MASTER CYLINDER

NOTICE: When the air is bled from the master cylinder (3rd chamber), be sure to run the engine.

HINT: After disassembling the master cylinder or when if the reservoir becomes empty, bleed the air from the master cylinder.

a. Run the engine at idle.
b. Connect the vinyl tube to the brake caliper bleeder plug.
c. Open the brake caliper bleeder plug or wheel cylinder bleeder plug.
d. Depress the brake pedal several times, then loosen the master cylinder (3rd chamber) bleeder plug with the pedal held down.
e. At the point when the fluid stops coming out, tighten the master cylinder (3rd chamber) bleeder plug, then release the brake pedal.
f. Repeat (d) and (e) until all the air in the fluid has been bled out.
g. Tighten the master cylinder (3rd chamber) bleeder plug.
Torque: 11 Nm (112 kgf-cm, 8 ft. lbs.)
h. Tighten the brake caliper bleeder plug or wheel cylinder bleeder plug.
Torque:
Disc: 8.3 Nm (85 kgf-cm, 73 inch lbs.)
Drum: 11 Nm (112 kgf-cm, 8 ft. lbs)
i. Stop the engine.

5. BLEED BRAKE LINE

e. Repeat the above procedure to bleed the air out of the brake line for each wheel.
Torque: 8.3 Nm (85 kgf-cm, 73 inch lbs.)

6. CHECK FLUID LEVEL IN RESERVOIR

7. INSTALL COWL TOP PANEL SUB-ASSEMBLY OUTER FRONT
