Applicability
Introduction
Some customers may experience multiple warning lights illuminated vehicle not shifting from Park to Drive and/or other accessories becoming inoperative after the vehicle has cold soaked in sub-freezing (below 14°F [-10°C]) ambient air temperatures. A new relay and wire harness have been made available to correct this condition. Use the following procedure to address this concern.

APPLICABLE WARRANTY
^ This repair is covered under the Toyota Comprehensive Warranty. This warranty is in effect for 36 months or 36,000 miles, whichever occurs first, from the vehicle's in-service date.
^ Warranty application is limited to correction of a problem based upon a customer's specific complaint.

Repair Procedure
CAUTION
Work must be started more than 90 seconds AFTER the ignition switch is turned to the LOCK position and the negative (-) terminal cable is disconnected from the battery. The SRS is equipped with a back-up power source. If work is started within 90 seconds from disconnecting the negative (-) terminal cable of the battery, the SRS may deploy.
1. Please follow Repair Manual instructions to remove the knee airbag.
Refer to the Technical Information System (TIS) applicable model and model year Repair Manual:
^ 2005 Avalon:
Vehicle Interior - Supplemental Restraint System - "Instrument Panel Air Bag Assy Lower No.1: Replacement"
^ 2006 / 2007 2008 / 2009 Avalon:
Vehicle Interior - Supplemental Restraint System - "Driver Side knee Airbag Assembly: Removal"
2. Remove the IG1 Relay from the Junction Block.
3. Install the new IG1 Relay.
A. Install the new IG1 relay to the end of the sub-harness.
B. Install the other end of the sub-harness to the Junction Block.
C. Route the harness according to Figures 2 and 3.
D. Using wire ties secure the harness and relay.
NOTE
Do NOT attach the wire tie to an unprotected wire.
4. Follow the Repair Manual instructions to reinstall the knee airbag. Refer to TIS applicable model and model year Repair Manual:
^ Avalon:

^ 2005 Avalon:
Vehicle Interior - Supplemental Restraint System - "Driver Side knee Airbag Assembly: Installation"
5. Connect TIS Techstream and clear any stored DTCs.
6. Initialize power systems (windows moonroof etc.). Refer to appropriate service bulletin.
7. Confirm repair.
