Transmission Position Sensor/Switch: Service and Repair

PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH ASSEMBLY (ATM)

REPLACEMENT
1. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL
2. REMOVE AIR CLEANER ASSEMBLY
3. REMOVE AIR CLEANER HOSE NO.1
4. REMOVE INTAKE AIR RESONATOR SUB-ASSEMBLY
5. REMOVE ENGINE UNDER COVER LH
6. REMOVE PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH ASSEMBLY





a. Remove the nut, washer and control shaft lever.





b. Pry up the lock plate.





c. Remove the lock nut and lock plate.





d. Remove the 2 bolts and pull out the park/neutral position switch.
7. INSTALL PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH ASSEMBLY





a. Install the park/neutral position switch to the manual valve shaft.
b. Temporarily install the 2 bolts.





c. Place a new lock plate and tighten the nut.
Torque: 6.9 Nm (70 kgf-cm, 61 inch lbs.)
d. Temporarily install the control shaft lever.





e. Turn the lever counterclockwise until it stops, then turn it clockwise 2 notches.
f. Remove the control shaft lever.





g. Align the groove with the neutral basic line.
h. Hold the switch in position and tighten the 2 bolts.
Torque: 5.4 Nm (55 kgf-cm, 48 inch lbs.)





i. Using a screwdriver, stake the nut with the lock plate.





j. Install the control shaft lever, washer and nut.
Torque: 13 Nm (130 kgf-cm, 9 ft. lbs.)





k. Connect the park/neutral position switch connector.
8. INSTALL ENGINE UNDER COVER LH
9. INSTALL INTAKE AIR RESONATOR SUB-ASSEMBLY
10. INSTALL AIR CLEANER HOSE NO.1
11. INSTALL AIR CLEANER ASSEMBLY
12. CONNECT CABLE TO NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL
13. ADJUST SHIFT LEVER POSITION
14. INSPECT SHIFT LEVER POSITION
15. INSPECT PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH ASSEMBLY
16. ADJUST PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH ASSEMBLY
17. PERFORM INITIALIZATION
Some systems need initialization when disconnecting the cable from the negative battery terminal.
