Tailgate: Service and Repair
DISASSEMBLY1. REMOVE TAILGATE PROTECTOR RH
a. Using a Torx socket wrench T30, remove the 7 screws.
b. Disengage the 10 claws and remove the tailgate protector RH.
2. REMOVE TAILGATE SERVICE HOLE COVER
a. Using a Torx socket wrench T30, remove the 8 screws and tailgate service hole cover.
3. REMOVE TAILGATE LOCK ASSEMBLY LH
a. Disconnect the tailgate link as shown in the illustration.
b. Disengage the clip and remove the 2 bolts, then remove the tailgate lock assembly LH from the tailgate.
4. REMOVE TAILGATE LOCK ASSEMBLY RH
HINT: Use the same procedure as described for the LH side.
5. REMOVE TAILGATE HANDLE ASSEMBLY
a. Remove the 2 bolts.
b. Disengage the 2 claws and remove the tailgate handle assembly.
6. REMOVE TAILGATE LOCK STRIKER
a. Remove the 2 bolts and tailgate lock striker.
HINT: Use the same procedures for both the LH and RH sides.
7. REMOVE TAILGATE
a. Disconnect the tailgate stay.
HINT: Use the same procedures for both the LH and RH sides.
b. Remove the tailgate from the vehicle as shown in the illustration.
NOTE: Be careful not to drop the tailgate.
HINT: Remove the tailgate from the vehicle by lifting up the right side and sliding it slightly to the right.
8. REMOVE TAILGATE STAY STOPPER
a. Using a Torx socket wrench T40, remove the screw and tailgate stopper.
HINT: Use the same procedure for both the LH and RH sides.
9. REMOVE TAILGATE STAY ASSEMBLY
a. Using a Torx socket wrench T40, remove the screw, washer and tailgate stay assembly.
HINT: Use the same procedure for both the LH and RH sides.
10. REMOVE TAILGATE HINGE ASSEMBLY LH
a. Using a Torx socket wrench T40, remove the bolt, 2 screws and tailgate hinge assembly LH.
HINT: Perform the same procedure as above on the opposite side.
11. REMOVE TAILGATE HINGE ASSEMBLY RH
HINT: Use the same procedures as described for the LH side.
REASSEMBLY
1. INSTALL TAILGATE HINGE ASSEMBLY LH
a. Using a Torx socket wrench T40, install the tailgate hinge assembly LH with the bolt and 2 screws.
Torque: 18 N.m (178 kgf.cm, 13 ft.lbf)
2. INSTALL TAILGATE HINGE ASSEMBLY RH
HINT: Use the same procedures as described for the LH side.
3. INSTALL TAILGATE STAY ASSEMBLY
a. Using a Torx socket wrench T40, install the tailgate stay assembly with the screw and washer.
Torque: 14 N.m (143 kgf.cm, 10 ft.lbf)
HINT: Use the same procedure for both the LH and RH sides.
4. INSTALL TAILGATE STAY STOPPER
a. Using a Torx socket wrench T40, install the tailgate stopper with the screw.
Torque: 14 N.m (143 kgf.cm, 10 ft.lbf)
HINT: Use the same procedure for both the LH and RH sides.
5. INSTALL TAILGATE
a. Install the tailgate onto the vehicle.
NOTE: Be careful not to drop the tailgate.
HINT: Install the tailgate onto the vehicle by engaging the hinge on the left side first and then the hinge on the right side.
b. Connect the tailgate stay.
HINT: Use the same procedure for both the LH and RH sides.
6. INSTALL TAILGATE LOCK STRIKER
a. Install the tailgate lock striker with the 2 bolts.
Torque: 29 N.m (296 kgf.cm, 21 ft.lbf)
HINT: Use the same procedure for both the LH and RH sides.
7. INSTALL TAILGATE HANDLE ASSEMBLY
a. Engage the 2 claws and install the tailgate handle assembly with the 2 bolts.
Torque: 13 N.m (127 kgf.cm, 9 ft.lbf)
8. INSTALL TAILGATE LOCK ASSEMBLY LH
a. Engage the clip and install the tailgate lock assembly LH with the 2 bolts and clip.
Torque: 29 N.m (269 kgf.cm, 21 ft.lbf)
b. Connect the tailgate link as shown in the illustration.
9. INSTALL TAILGATE LOCK ASSEMBLY RH
HINT: Use the same procedure as described for the LH side.
10. INSTALL TAILGATE SERVICE HOLE COVER
a. Using a Torx socket wrench T30, install the tailgate service hole cover with the 8 screws.
11. INSTALL TAILGATE PROTECTOR RH
a. Engage the 10 claws and install the tailgate protector.
b. Using a Torx socket wrench T30, tighten the 7 screws to the tailgate protector.
