Introduction

Customers may complain of a tick or creak noise from the left or right side of the dash area when driving over rough road surfaces. This TSB provides a repair procedure to address this condition.

Applicable Vehicles

Warranty Information

Applicable Warranty*:
This repair is covered under the Toyota Comprehensive Warranty. This warranty is in effect for 36 months or 36,000 miles, whichever occurs first, from the vehicle's in-service date.

* Warranty application is limited to correction of a problem based upon a customer's specific complaint.

Repair Procedure

1. Mark the hinge to hood location using a thin felt marking pen.

2. Remove the hood.

3. Remove the hood hinge on the affected side of the vehicle. (If the noise is coming from the driver's side of the vehicle, remove the driver's side hood hinge etc.)

HINT:
The forward bolt on the hood hinge is easily removed with an open-ended wrench. For easier removal of the rear bolt, use a 1/4-in drive wobble or universal jointed socket.

4. Using a 3-mm punch, make a dimple into the top layer of the sheet metal adjacent to the hood hinge mounting hole closest to the windshield in the location as shown in the illustration.

5. Protect the bare metal spot with the appropriate touch-up paint or an available rust inhibitor.

6. Reinstall the hinge and hood.

Torque: 13 N.m (133 kgf.cm, 10 ft.lbf)

7. Check hood for proper alignment (adjust as necessary).
