Operation CHARM: Car repair manuals for everyone.

Initialization

INITIALIZATION

NOTE: Make sure that the seat is not occupied before performing the operation.

HINT: Perform the zero point calibration and sensitivity check if any of the following conditions occur:
- The occupant classification ECU is replaced.
- Accessories (seatback tray and seat cover, etc.) are installed.
- The passenger seat is removed from the vehicle.
- The passenger airbag ON/OFF indicator ("OFF") comes on when the passenger seat is not occupied.
- The vehicle is brought to the workshop for repair due to an accident or a collision.

1. Separate Seat:
ZERO POINT CALIBRATION AND SENSITIVITY CHECK

Zero point calibration and sensitivity check procedures.

HINT: Make sure that zero point calibration has finished normally, and then perform the sensitivity check.

1. Adjust the seat position according to the table.
2. Connect the hand-held tester to the DLC3.
3. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
4. Perform the zero point calibration by following the prompts on the tester screen shown.

HINT: Refer to the hand-held tester operator's manual for further details.

OK: "COMPLETE" is displayed.

5. Perform the sensitivity check by following the prompts on the tester screen shown.
6. Confirm that the beginning sensor reading is within the standard range. Standard value: -3.2 to 3.2 kg (-7 to 7 lb)
7. Place a 30 kg (66.14 lb) weight (eg. a 30 kg (66.14 lb) of lead mass) onto the passenger seat.

8. Confirm that the reading is within the standard range.

Standard value: 27 to 33 kg (59.52 to 72.75 lb)

HINT:
- When performing the sensitivity check, use a solid metal weight (the check result may not appear properly if the weight made from liquid is used).
- When the sensor reading deviates from the standard range, retighten the bolts of the passenger seat taking care not to deform the seat rail. After performing this procedure, if the sensor reading is not within the standard range, replace the front seat assembly RH.
- When zero point calibration has not finished normally, replace the front seat assembly RH.

2. Except Separate Seat:
ZERO POINT CALIBRATION

a. Zero point calibration procedures.
1. Check that all of the following conditions are met:
- The vehicle is parked on a flat surface.
- No objects are placed on the front passenger seat.
- The front passenger seat belt buckle switch is OFF.

2. Adjust the seat position according to the table.
3. Connect the hand-held tester to the DLC3.
4. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.

5. Perform the zero point calibration by following the prompts on the tester screen.

HINT:
- Refer to the hand-held tester operator's manual for further details.
- If zero point calibration is performed when the conditions for the calibration are not satisfied, DTC B1797 will be output.
- If zero point calibration has failed, DTC B1797 will be output.

HINT: *1: If After Exchange is selected before the previous ECU data are stored in the hand-held tester, the display screen returns to CONDITION SELECT ECU: Occupant Detect.

6. Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position.
7. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
8. Using the hand held tester, clear the DTCs stored in memory.

HINT: DTC is not cleared at this time, past DTC will remain.

3. Except Separate Seat:
SENSITIVITY CHECK

a. Sensitivity check procedures.
1. Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position.
2. Place a weight of 20 kg (44 lb) on the front passenger seat.

NOTE:
- Make sure to not the weight touch the seatback when placing it on the seat cushion.
- Place the weight in the area shown in the illustration.

3. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position, and wait for at least 6 seconds.
4. Check that the passenger airbag ON/OFF indicator indicates OFF.
OK: The passenger airbag ON/OFF indicator indicates OFF.

5. Place a weight of 30 kg (66 lb) on the front passenger seat (total 50 kg (110 lb)).

NOTE:
- Make sure to not the weight touch the seatback when placing it on the seat cushion.
- Place the weight in the area shown in the illustration.

6. Check that the passenger airbag ON/OFF indicator indicates ON.
OK: The passenger airbag ON/OFF indicator indicates ON.
