INTRODUCTION:

Some vehicles may exhibit a condition in which the shift lever does NOT move smoothly between gear positions and the shift lever slide covers may also appear deformed. The shift lever slide cover No. 2 has been revised to correct this condition. Please use the repair procedure below to address customer concerns.

APPLICABLE VEHICLES:
- 2006 - 2007 model year RAV4 vehicles equipped with an automatic transaxle and produced BEFORE the Production Change Effective VINs shown below.

REPAIR PROCEDURE:

1. Confirm the shift lever is difficult to move between gear positions.
2. Inspect the shift lever slide covers.
3. If it appears deformed or broken, replace the shift lever slide covers.







4. Remove the shift lever assembly.
Refer to ETAS, 2006 model year RAV4 Repair Manual, Drivetrain - Automatic Transmission/Transaxle -- "U#### Automatic Transaxle: Floor Shift Assembly: Removal".

5. Remove slide covers.







A. While in the Park position, roll the bottom portion of the slide cover out of the rear guide.







B. Move the shift lever to the Low position and roll the slide cover out of the front guide.







C. Move the shift lever to the Park position and pull the slide cover from the guide on the right side of the shift lever sub-assembly and remove both slide covers together.
D. Remove the slide cover No.2.

6. Install the new slide cover No.2 to the slide cover.
If the slide cover is damaged, replace both the slide cover and slide cover No.2 with a new one.
If the slide cover is dirty, clean it.

7. Install the slide covers in reverse order of the removal process.
8. Install the shift lever assembly.

9. Confirm the repair is effective by moving the shift lever through all gear positions.
