OVERHAUL
HINT:
- The installation procedures are the removal procedures in reverse order. However, only installation procedures requiring additional information are included.
- Use the same procedures for the RH side and LH side.
- The procedures listed below are for the LH side.
- When removing/installing and overhauling the passenger seat, check the passenger occupant classification system and perform the zero point calibration.
- A bolt without a torque specification is shown in the standard bolt chart.
CAUTION: Wear protective gloves. Sharp areas on the seat adjuster can cause injuries to your hands.
1. DISCONNECT BATTERY NEGATIVE TERMINAL
CAUTION: Work must be started at least 90 seconds after the ignition switch is turned to the LOCK position and the negative (-) terminal cable is disconnected from the battery.
(The SRS is equipped with a back-up power source. If work is started within 90 seconds from turning the ignition switch to the LOCK position and disconnecting the negative (-) terminal cable of the battery, the SRS may deploy.)
2. REMOVE FRONT SEAT TRACK COVER LH REAR OUTER
a. Using a screwdriver, disengage the 4 claws and remove the cover.
HINT: Tape the screwdriver tip before use.
3. REMOVE FRONT SEAT TRACK COVER LH REAR INNER
a. Using a screwdriver, disengage the 2 claws and remove the cover.
HINT: Tape the screwdriver tip before use.
4. REMOVE FRONT SEAT HEADREST ASSEMBLY
5. REMOVE FRONT SEAT ASSEMBLY
a. Lift up the seat track adjusting handle and move the seat to the rearmost position.
b. Remove the 2 bolts on the front side of the seat.
c. Lift up the seat track adjusting handle and move the seat to the front-most position.
d. Remove the 2 bolts on the rear side of the seat.
e. Disconnect the connectors under the seat. Then remove the front seat.
NOTE: Be careful not to damage the vehicle body.
6. Passenger seat only:
REMOVE OCCUPANT CLASSIFICATION ECU
7. Driver seat only:
REMOVE VERTICAL ADJUSTING HANDLE
a. Using a screwdriver, disengage the 3 claws and remove the vertical seat adjuster knob cap.
HINT: Tape the screwdriver tip before use.
b. Remove the 2 screws and vertical adjusting handle.
8. REMOVE RECLINING ADJUSTER RELEASE HANDLE
a. Raise the reclining adjuster release handle to reveal the claw. Using a screwdriver, disengage the claw and remove the release handle.
HINT: Tape the screwdriver tip before use.
9. REMOVE FRONT SEAT CUSHION SHIELD LH
a. Remove the screw.
b. Using a screwdriver, disengage the 2 claws and clip. Then remove the cushion shield.
HINT: Tape the screwdriver tip before use.
10. REMOVE FRONT SEAT CUSHION SHIELD RH
HINT: Use the same procedures described for the LH side.
11. REMOVE FRONT SEAT INNER BELT ASSEMBLY LH
a. Remove the bolt and belt.
b. Remove the screw.
c. Using a screwdriver, disengage the claw and clip. Then remove the cushion shield inner LH together with the wire harness of the inner belt.
HINT: Tape the screwdriver tip before use.
d. Using a screwdriver, disengage the claw. Then remove the cushion shield inner LH from the wire harness of the inner belt.
HINT: Tape the screwdriver tip before use.
e. Disengage the clamps and disconnect the connector. Then remove the belt.
12. REMOVE FRONT SEAT CUSHION COVER
a. Disengage the hook and remove the hog rings and seat cushion cover together with the pad.
b. Remove the hog rings and cushion cover.
13. REMOVE FRONT SEATBACK COVER
a. Remove the hog rings. Then open the lower part of the seatback cover.
b. Disengage the 4 claws and remove the 2 headrest supports.
c. w/ Side airbag:
Remove the nut and 2 seatback cover brackets.
d. Remove the seatback cover together with the pad from the seat adjuster.
e. Remove the hog rings and seatback cover from the seat-back pad.
14. REMOVE RECLINING ADJUSTER INSIDE COVER LH (UPPER)
a. Remove the screw and inside cover.
15. REMOVE RECLINING ADJUSTER INSIDE COVER RH (UPPER)
a. Remove the screw and inside cover.
16. REMOVE RECLINING ADJUSTER INSIDE COVER LH (LOWER)
a. Remove the screw and inside cover.
17. REMOVE RECLINING ADJUSTER INSIDE COVER RH (LOWER)
a. Remove the screw and inside cover.
18. Driver seat only:
REMOVE FRONT SEAT CUSHION SHIELD LOWER LH
a. Using a screwdriver, disengage the claws and remove the cushion shield.
HINT: Tape the screwdriver tip before use.
19. Driver seat only:
REMOVE FRONT SEAT CUSHION SHIELD LOWER RH
a. Using a screwdriver, disengage the claws and remove the cushion shield.
HINT: Tape the screwdriver tip before use.
20. Driver seat only:
REMOVE VERTICAL ADJUSTER SPACER
a. Using a screwdriver, disengage the claws and remove the spacer.
HINT: Tape the screwdriver tip before use.
21. Driver seat only:
REMOVE SEAT POSITION AIRBAG SENSOR
a. Disconnect the wire harness connector.
b. Disengage the claw and remove the seat slide position protector.
c. Using a torx socket wrench (T30), remove the torx bolt and airbag sensor.
22. Passenger seat only:
REMOVE FRONT SEAT WIRE RH
a. Disconnect the connectors and disengage the clamps. Then remove the seat wire.
23. Driver seat only:
INSTALL SEAT POSITION AIRBAG SENSOR
a. Install the seat position airbag sensor, but do not fully tighten it yet.
b. Insert a 1 mm (0.04 in.) feeler gauge between the slide rail and sensor as shown in the illustration.
HINT: Make sure that the clearance between the seat position airbag sensor and the slide rail is within 0.6 to 2.0 mm (0.023 to 0.079 in.).
NOTE:
- If the seat position airbag sensor has been dropped, or there are any cracks, dents or other defects in the case, bracket or connector, replace the seat position airbag sensor with a new one.
- When installing the seat position airbag sensor, make sure that the SRS wiring does not interfere with other parts and is not pinched between other parts.
c. Hold down the top of the sensor and and tighten the sensor using a torx socket wrench (T30).
Torque: 8.0 N.m (82 kgf.cm, 71 in.lbf)
d. Remove the feeler gauge.
e. Install the seat slide position protector.
f. Connect the wire harness connector.
24. INSTALL FRONT SEATBACK COVER
NOTE:
- Be careful not to damage the cover.
- When installing the hog rings, take care to minimize wrinkles as much as possible.
a. Using hog ring pliers, install the seatback cover to the seatback pad with new hog rings.
b. Install the seatback cover (with pad) to the seat adjuster.
c. Install the 2 headrest supports.
d. w/ Side airbag:
Fully cover the airbag with the 2 seatback cover brackets and tighten the nut.
Torque: 5.5 N.m (56 kgf.cm, 49 in.lbf)
NOTE:
- For vehicles with side airbags, the seatback cover must be securely installed. Otherwise, the side airbag may not deploy properly.
- Make sure that the strap is not twisted after installing the bracket.
- Install the bracket securely.
e. Using hog ring pliers, install the seatback cover with new hog rings.
25. INSTALL FRONT SEAT CUSHION COVER
NOTE:
- Be careful not to damage the cover.
- When installing the hog rings, take care to minimize wrinkles as much as possible.
a. Using hog ring pliers, install the seat cushion cover to the seat cushion pad with new hog rings.
b. Install the seat cushion cover (with pad) to the seat adjuster by using hog ring pliers to attach new hog rings and hooks.
26. INSTALL FRONT SEAT INNER BELT ASSEMBLY LH
a. Connect the connector and engage the clamps.
b. Engage the wire harness of the inner belt to the cushion shield inner LH.
c. Install the cushion shield inner LH (with wire harness) with the screw.
d. Install the belt with the bolt.
Torque: 41 N.m (418 kgf.cm, 30 ft.lbf)
27. INSTALL FRONT SEAT ASSEMBLY
a. Place the seat in the cabin.
b. Connect the connectors under the seat.
c. Tighten the 4 bolts in the order indicated in the illustration.
Torque: 47 N.m (480 kgf.cm, 35 ft.lbf)
28. CHECK SEAT SLIDE ADJUSTER LOCKS
a. During sliding operation of the front seat, check that the left and right adjusters move together smoothly and lock simultaneously.
If the adjusters do not lock simultaneously, loosen the seat fixation bolts to adjust the adjuster's positions.
29. CONNECT BATTERY NEGATIVE TERMINAL
30. INSPECT SRS WARNING LAMP
31. Passenger seat only:
INITIALIZE FRONT PASSENGER OCCUPANT CLASSIFICATION SYSTEM
NOTE: Make sure that the seat is not occupied.
HINT: Perform the zero point calibration and sensitivity check when any of the following have occurred.
- The occupant classification ECU is replaced.
- Accessories (seatback tray, seat cover, etc.) are installed.
- The passenger seat is removed from the vehicle.
- Both the SRS warning lamp and the passenger airbag OFF indicator illuminate.
- The passenger airbag ON/OFF indicator OFF illuminate on when the passenger seat is not occupied.
- The vehicle is brought to the workshop for repair due to an accident or a collision.
a. Zero point calibration and sensitivity check procedures.
HINT: Make sure that the zero point calibration has finished normally, and then perform the sensitivity check.
1. Adjust the seat position according to the table.
2. Connect the hand-held tester to the DLC3.
3. Turn the ignition switch ON.
4. Perform the zero point calibration by following the instructions on the tester screen.
HINT: Refer to the hand-held tester operator's manual for further details.
OK: COMPLETE is displayed.
5. Perform the sensitivity check by following the prompts on the tester screen .
6. Confirm that the beginning sensor reading is within the standard value.
Standard value: -3.2 to 3.2 kg (-7 to 7 lb)
7. Place a 30 kg (66.14 lb) weight (for example, a lead mass) onto the passenger seat.
8. Confirm that the sensitivity is within the standard value.
Standard value: 27 to 33 kg (59.52 to 72.75 lb)
HINT:
- When performing the sensitivity check, use a solid weight made from metal. The check results may be inaccurate if liquid is used as a weight.
- When the sensitivity is not within the standard value, retighten the bolts of the passenger seat while taking care not to deform the seat rail. Then perform the sensitivity check again. If the sensitivity is not within the standard value, replace the seat adjuster.
- When the zero point calibration produces errors, replace the seat adjuster.
