IG1 Relay Freezing

Applicability

Introduction

Some customers may experience multiple warning lights illuminated vehicle not shifting from Park to Drive and other accessories becoming inoperative after the vehicle has cold soaked in sub-freezing (below 14°F [-10°C]) ambient air temperatures. A new relay and wire harness have been made available to improve this condition. Use the following procedure to address this concern.

APPLICABLE WARRANTY

^ This repair is covered under the Toyota Comprehensive Warranty. This warranty is in effect for 36 months or 36,000 miles, whichever occurs first, from the vehicle's in-service date.

^ Warranty application is limited to correction of a problem based upon a customer's specific complaint.

Repair Procedure

CAUTION

Work must be started more than 90 seconds AFTER the ignition switch is turned to the LOCK position and the negative (-) terminal cable is disconnected from the battery. (The SRS is equipped with a back-up power source. If work is started within 90 seconds from disconnecting the negative (-) terminal cable of the battery, the SRS may deploy).

1. Disconnect cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.

2. Remove front door scuffle plate LH.





A. Using a plastic pry tool disengage the 2 claws labeled A, 2 claws labeled B, 4 claws labeled C and 5 clips and remove the scuff plate.

3. Remove cowl side trim sub-assembly LH.





A. Remove clip A.

B. Disengage the claw and clip B and remove the side trim.

4. Remove the lower instrument panel finish panel LH.





A. Using a plastic pry tool open the cover of the lower instrument panel finish panel LH.





B. Remove bolt D and screw H.

C. Disconnect the hood lock control cable assembly.

D. Disengage the 4 clips and remove the lower instrument panel finish panel LH.

E. Disconnect the connectors.





5. Remove the lower instrument panel sub-assembly LH.

A. Disconnect the DLC3 connector.

B. Remove the 5 bolts and the lower instrument panel insert sub-assembly LH.





6. Remove the IG1 Relay from the Junction Block.

7. Install the new IG1 Relay.

A. Install the new IG1 Relay to the end of the sub-harness.

B. Install the other end of the sub-harness to the Junction Block.








C. Route the harness according to Figures 7 and 8.

D. Using wire ties secure the harness and relay.

NOTICE

Do NOT attach the wire tie to an unprotected wire.

8. Follow removal procedure in reverse order to properly assemble the vehicle.

9. Connect TIS Techstream and clear any stored DTCs.

10. Initialize power systems; refer to the appropriate Service Bulletin.

11. Confirm repair.
