P0606

2GR-FE ENGINE CONTROL SYSTEM: SFI SYSTEM: P0606: ECM / PCM Processor

DTC P0606 - ECM / PCM Processor

DESCRIPTION

The ECM continuously monitors its internal processors (CPUs), heated oxygen sensor transistors. This self-check ensures that the ECM is functioning properly.

INSPECTION PROCEDURE

PROCEDURE

1. CHECK ANY OTHER DTCS OUTPUT
(a) Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
(b) Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
(c) Turn the tester on.
(d) Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Trouble Codes.
(e) Read the DTCs.
Result:

A -- CHECK FOR EXHAUST GAS LEAK
B -- Continue to next step.
2. INSPECT DTC (P0136, P0137, P0138, P0156, P0157 OR P0158)
(a) Inspect the P0136, P0137, P0138, P0156, P0157 or P0158 flow chart.
HINT:
- If P0136 or P0156 is output, troubleshoot for that DTC first P0136. Then proceed to step 6.
- If P0137or P0157 is output, troubleshoot for that DTC first P0136. Then proceed to step 6.
- If P0138 or P0158 is output, troubleshoot for that DTC first P0136. Then proceed to step 6.
- If DTC P0606 and P0136, P0137, P0138, P0156, P0157 or P0158 are output, the output voltage of the heated oxygen sensor may remain close to 0 V or become high (around 1 V or more).

NEXT -- INSPECT ECM
3. CHECK FOR EXHAUST GAS LEAK
(a) Allow the engine to idle and rev the engine.
(b) Check for exhaust gas leaks around the heated oxygen sensor.
If any exhaust gas leaks are present, repair them and proceed to step 4. If no exhaust gas leaks are present, proceed to step 4.
HINT:
- If no exhaust gas leaks are present, a malfunction in the heated oxygen sensor circuit is suspected.
- If any exhaust gas leaks are present around the heated oxygen sensor, noise appears in the output voltage of the heated oxygen sensor.

NEXT -- Continue to next step.
4. PERFORM CONFIRMATION DRIVING PATTERN
(a) Clear the DTC DTC Check / Clear.
(b) Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
(c) Warm up the engine until the engine coolant temperature becomes 75° (167°F) or more.
(d) Perform the driving pattern.

(1) Accelerate the vehicle to 50 mph (80 km/h) and stop the vehicle.
(2) Drive the vehicle at 38 to 50 mph (60 to 80 km/h) for 5 minutes or more.
(e) Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Trouble Codes.
(f) Read the DTCs.
Result:

C -- INSPECT ECM
B -- REPLACE ECM
A -- Continue to next step.

NEXT -- Continue to next step.
6. INSPECT ECM
(a) Clear the DTC DTC Check / Clear.
(b) Stop the engine and wait for 30 minutes.
(c) Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
(d) Start the engine and allow it to idle for 2 minutes.
(e) Turn the tester on.
(f) Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Trouble Codes.
(g) Read the DTCs.
Result:

A -- REPLACE ECM
B -- END
