DTC B1651/33 - Manual Cut off Switch Trouble

DESCRIPTION

The manual cut off switch circuit consists of the center airbag sensor and the airbag cut-off switch cylinder.
The front passenger airbag can be optionally deactivated via this circuit by turning the manual cut-off switch to the OFF position.
If the front passenger airbag is deactivated, the passenger airbag OFF indicator comes on to inform the passengers.
DTC B1651/33 is recorded when a malfunction is detected in the manual cut-off switch circuit.

INSPECTION PROCEDURE
NOTICE:
- When disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal while performing repairs, some systems need to be initialized after the cable is reconnected Repair Instruction - Initialization.
- After the ignition switch is turned OFF, the navigation system requires approximately 90 seconds to record various types of memory and settings. As a result, after turning the ignition switch OFF, wait 90 seconds or more before disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.

PROCEDURE

1. CHECK INSTRUMENT PANEL WIRE




(a) Turn the ignition switch OFF.
(b) Disconnect the negative (-) terminal cable from the battery, and wait for at least 90 seconds.
(c) Disconnect the connectors from the center airbag sensor and the airbag cut off switch cylinder.
(d) Connect the negative (-) terminal cable to the battery, and wait for at least 2 seconds.
(e) Turn the ignition switch ON.
(f) Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard voltage:





(g) Turn the ignition switch OFF.
(h) Disconnect the negative (-) terminal cable from the battery, and wait for at least 90 seconds.
(i) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard resistance:





(j) Release the activation prevention mechanism built into connector "B".
(k) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard resistance:






NG -- REPLACE INSTRUMENT PANEL WIRE
OK -- Continue to next step.
2. INSPECT AIRBAG CUT-OFF SWITCH CYLINDER




(a) Remove the airbag cut-off switch cylinder.
(b) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard resistance:






NG -- REPLACE AIRBAG CUT-OFF SWITCH CYLINDER
OK -- Continue to next step.
3. CHECK CENTER AIRBAG SENSOR




(a) Connect the connectors to the center airbag sensor and the airbag cut off switch cylinder.
(b) Connect the negative (-) terminal cable to the battery, and wait for at least 2 seconds.
(c) Turn the ignition switch ON, and wait for at least 60 seconds.
(d) Clear the DTCs stored in memory DTC Check / Clear.
(e) Turn the ignition switch OFF.
(f) Turn the ignition switch ON, and wait for at least 60 seconds.
(g) Check the DTCs DTC Check / Clear.

Result





HINT: Codes other than DTC B1651 maybe output at this time, but they are not related to this check.
