Removal





INTERIOR PANELS / TRIM: INSTRUMENT PANEL SAFETY PAD: REMOVAL

1. TABLE OF BOLT, SCREW AND NUT

HINT
All bolts, screws and nuts relevant to installing and removing the instrument panel are shown along with their alphabet code in the table below.





2. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL

CAUTION:
Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to disable the SRS system.

NOTICE:
When disconnecting the cable, some systems need to be initialized after the cable is reconnected Repair Instruction - Initialization.

3. REMOVE HEADLIGHT DIMMER SWITCH ASSEMBLY

(a) Remove the headlight dimmer switch assembly Removal.

4. REMOVE REAR CONSOLE BOX ASSEMBLY

(a) for 1GR-FE:

Remove the rear console box assembly Removal.

(b) for 2TR-FE:

Remove the rear console box assembly Removal.

5. REMOVE DOOR SCUFF PLATE ASSEMBLY LH Removal

6. REMOVE DOOR SCUFF PLATE ASSEMBLY RH

Use the same procedure described for the LH side.

7. REMOVE COWL SIDE TRIM BOARD LH Removal

8. REMOVE COWL SIDE TRIM BOARD RH

9. REMOVE FRONT DOOR OPENING TRIM WEATHERSTRIP LH Removal

11. REMOVE ASSIST GRIP PLUG Removal

12. REMOVE NO. 1 ASSIST GRIP Removal

15. REMOVE LOWER INSTRUMENT PANEL FINISH PANEL ASSEMBLY





(a) w/o Smart Key System:

(1) Detach the 4 clips.

(2) Disconnect the cooler thermistor and remove the lower instrument panel finish panel.





(b) w/ Smart Key System:

(1) Detach the 4 clips.

(2) Disconnect the connector and cooler thermistor and remove the lower instrument panel finish panel.

16. REMOVE NO. 2 SWITCH HOLE BASE





(a) Detach the 6 clips and 2 guides.

(b) Disconnect each connector and remove the No. 2 switch hole base.

17. REMOVE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER FINISH PANEL SUB-ASSEMBLY





(a) Detach the 7 clips and remove the instrument cluster finish panel.

18. REMOVE COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY Removal

19. REMOVE LOWER INSTRUMENT PANEL FINISH PANEL SUB-ASSEMBLY





(a) Using a screwdriver, detach the 2 claws and open the cover.

HINT
Tape the screwdriver tip before use.









(b) Remove the 2 bolts .

(c) Detach the 13 clips and 2 guides.

(d) Disconnect each connector and cable and remove the lower instrument panel finish panel.

20. REMOVE LOWER NO. 1 INSTRUMENT PANEL AIRBAG ASSEMBLY Removal

21. REMOVE NO. 2 INSTRUMENT PANEL UNDER COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY





(a) Detach the 3 clips and 2 guides and remove the No. 2 instrument panel under cover.

22. REMOVE LOWER INSTRUMENT COVER LH





(a) Put protective tape around the lower instrument cover.

(b) Using a screwdriver, detach the 4 claws and remove the lower instrument cover.

Tape the screwdriver tip before use.





23. REMOVE LOWER NO. 2 INSTRUMENT PANEL AIRBAG ASSEMBLY Removal

24. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL BOX DOOR COVER





HINT
Use the same procedure for all instrument panel box door covers.

(a) Using a screwdriver, detach the 2 claws and 2 guides, and remove the instrument panel box door cover.

HINT
Tape the screwdriver tip before use.





25. REMOVE LOWER INSTRUMENT PANEL SUB-ASSEMBLY





(a) Remove the 3 screws and 2 bolts .

(b) Detach the 10 clips and guide.

(c) Disconnect each connector and remove the lower instrument panel.

26. REMOVE HEATER CONTROL ASSEMBLY Removal

27. REMOVE RADIO RECEIVER ASSEMBLY (w/o Navigation System) Removal

28. REMOVE NAVIGATION RECEIVER ASSEMBLY (w/ Navigation System) Removal

29. REMOVE LOWER CENTER INSTRUMENT CLUSTER FINISH PANEL SUB-ASSEMBLY





(a) Remove the 2 screws .

(b) Detach the 4 clips.

(c) Disconnect each connector and remove the lower center instrument cluster finish panel.

30. REMOVE NO. 1 INSTRUMENT PANEL REGISTER ASSEMBLY





(a) Detach the 4 clips and 2 guides and remove the No. 1 instrument panel register.

31. REMOVE NO. 2 INSTRUMENT PANEL REGISTER ASSEMBLY

HINT
Use the same procedure described for the No. 1 instrument panel register.

32. REMOVE NO. 1 INSTRUMENT PANEL SPEAKER PANEL SUB-ASSEMBLY





(a) Put protective tape around the No. 1 instrument panel speaker panel.

(b) Using a screwdriver, detach the 2 clips, 4 claws and 3 guides and remove the No. 1 instrument panel speaker panel.

Tape the screwdriver tip before use.





33. REMOVE NO. 2 INSTRUMENT PANEL SPEAKER PANEL SUB-ASSEMBLY





(a) Put protective tape around the No. 2 instrument panel speaker panel.

(b) Using a screwdriver, detach the 2 clips, 3 claws and 3 guides and remove the No. 2 instrument panel speaker panel.

Tape the screwdriver tip before use.





34. REMOVE FRONT NO. 2 SPEAKER ASSEMBLY Removal

35. REMOVE DCM (TELEMATICS TRANSCEIVER) Removal

36. REMOVE FOUR WHEEL DRIVE CONTROL ECU (for 4WD)

(a) for VF2A:

Remove the four wheel drive control ECU Removal.

(b) for VF4BM:

Remove the four wheel drive control ECU Removal.

37. REMOVE MULTI-MEDIA INTERFACE ECU Removal

38. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL SUB-ASSEMBLY

(a) Partially remove the floor carpet.

HINT
It is not necessary to fully remove the floor carpet. Partially remove it so that the No. 2 instrument panel wire can be removed in a later step.

(b) Remove the 6 bolts and nuts .

(c) Remove the 2 passenger airbag bolts, nut labeled A and bolt labeled B.

(d) Remove the 2 bolts, nut and 2 brackets.

(e) Disconnect the connectors and detach the clamps and claws.

(f) Detach the 2 guides and remove the instrument panel safety pad.
