TSB SUPERSESSION NOTICE
The information contained in this TSB supersedes TSB 3109.
- Applicability has been updated to include 2005 - 2011 Avalon, 2007 - 2011 Sienna, and 2009 - 2011 Camry, Highlander, RAV4, and Venza vehicles.
- Warranty Information, Parts Information, and Repair Procedure have all been updated.
TSB 3109 is Obsolete and any printed versions should be discarded. Be sure to review the entire content of this service bulletin before proceeding.
INTRODUCTION:
Some 2005 - 2011 model year 2GR-FE equipped vehicles may exhibit a MIL "ON" condition with one or more VVT-i related Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) stored in the Engine Control Module or ECM (SAE term: Powertrain Control Module/PCM). Please use the following repair procedure to address this condition.

NOTE
- Replace only the affected OCV based on the Repair Procedure in this bulletin.
- Air surge tank gaskets are only required for replacement of either Bank 1 OCVs.
REPAIR PROCEDURE:
1. Using ETAS Techstream, confirm if any of the DTCs listed below are stored, remove the affected OCV, and visually inspect the spool valve for debris or sticking in its bore.

- Engine/Hybrid System - Engine Control - "2GR-FE Engine Control System: Camshaft Timing Oil Control Valve Assembly: Removal"
- 2007 / 2008 / 2009 / 2010 / 2011 Camry

2. If debris is present or the valve is sticking, proceed to step 3.
If no debris is present or the spool valve does not appear to be sticking, this TSB does NOT apply. Refer to Repair Manual procedures.
3. Remove the valve cover from the affected bank and temporarily remove both OCVs.

Inspect the OCV filter for any debris or damage upon removal.

4. Clean the OCV and oil pipe union oil passages using compressed air.
5. Confirm no debris is present around the OCV mounting hole and install a new OCV in the affected location. Reinstall the original OCV in the location that was NOT affected (no DTCs stored).

6. Clear all DTCs, start the engine, and test drive to verify the repair.
