B1635

SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEMS: AIRBAG SYSTEM: B1635/24: Rear Airbag Sensor LH Circuit Malfunction
B1635/24 - Rear Airbag Sensor LH Circuit Malfunction

DESCRIPTION

The rear airbag sensor LH circuit consists of the center airbag sensor assembly, rear airbag sensor LH, and side airbag sensor LH.

The side airbag sensor LH and rear airbag sensor LH detect impacts to the vehicle and send signals to the center airbag sensor assembly to determine if the airbag should be deployed.

DTC B1635/24 is recorded when a malfunction is detected in the rear airbag sensor LH circuit.

INSPECTION PROCEDURE

PROCEDURE

1. CHECK CONNECTORS

(a) Turn the ignition switch off.

(b) Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 90 seconds.

(c) Check that the connectors are properly connected to the side airbag sensor LH and the rear airbag sensor LH.

OK:

The connectors are properly connected.

HINT
If the connectors are not connected securely, reconnect the connectors and proceed to the next inspection.

(d) Disconnect the connectors from the side airbag sensor LH and rear airbag sensor LH.

(e) Check that the terminals of the connectors are not damaged.

OK:

The terminals are not deformed or damaged.

NG -- REPLACE FLOOR WIRE
OK -- Continue to next step.

2. CHECK FLOOR WIRE (OPEN)

(a) Using SST, connect terminals 2 (BCL+) and 1 (BCL-) of connector C.

NOTICE:
Do not forcibly insert SST into the terminals of the connector when connecting.

SST : 09843-18040

(b) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

Standard Resistance:

NG -- REPLACE FLOOR WIRE
OK -- Continue to next step.

3. CHECK FLOOR WIRE (SHORT TO B+)

(a) Disconnect SST from connector C.

(b) Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal.

(c) Turn the ignition switch to ON.

(d) Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

Standard Voltage:

NG -- REPLACE FLOOR WIRE
OK -- Continue to next step.

4. CHECK FLOOR WIRE (SHORT TO GROUND)

(a) Turn the ignition switch off.

(b) Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 90 seconds.

(c) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

Standard Resistance:

NG -- REPLACE FLOOR WIRE
OK -- Continue to next step.

5. CHECK REAR AIRBAG SENSOR LH

(a) Connect the connector to the side airbag sensor LH.

(b) Interchange the rear airbag sensor RH with LH and connect the connectors.

(c) Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal.

(d) Turn the ignition switch to ON, and wait for at least 60 seconds.

(e) Clear the DTCs stored in the memory DTC Check / Clear.

(f) Turn the ignition switch off.

(g) Turn the ignition switch to ON, and wait for at least 60 seconds.

(h) Check for DTCs DTC Check / Clear.

Result:

HINT

C -- USE SIMULATION METHOD TO CHECK Diagnosis System

B -- REPLACE REAR AIRBAG SENSOR LH Removal
A -- Continue to next step.

6. CHECK SIDE AIRBAG SENSOR LH

(a) Turn the ignition switch off.

(b) Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 90 seconds.

(c) Return the rear airbag sensors RH and LH to their original positions and connect the connectors.

(d) Interchange the side airbag sensor RH with LH and connect the connectors.

(e) Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal.

(f) Turn the ignition switch to ON, and wait for at least 60 seconds.

(g) Clear the DTCs stored in the memory DTC Check / Clear.

(h) Turn the ignition switch off.

(i) Turn the ignition switch to ON, and wait for at least 60 seconds.

(j) Check for DTCs DTC Check / Clear.

Result:

HINT
Codes other than DTC B1630/23 and B1635/24 may be output at this time, but they are not related to this check.

C -- REPLACE SIDE AIRBAG SENSOR LH Removal

B -- REPLACE CENTER AIRBAG SENSOR ASSEMBLY Removal

A -- USE SIMULATION METHOD TO CHECK Diagnosis System
