DESCRIPTION

The occupant detection ECU detects the state of the front seat inner belt assembly RH and road sensor when the front passenger seat is occupied with the ignition switch on (IG). If the front passenger seat belt is not fastened, the front seat belt warning light on the telltale light assembly blinks. If the seat belt is fastened, the warning light goes off.

INSPECTION PROCEDURE

NOTICE:
The seat belt warning system uses CAN. Before troubleshooting the seat belt warning system, perform Communication Function Check by following How to Proceed with Troubleshooting to confirm that the communication systems are normal.

PROCEDURE

1. CHECK FOR DTC

(a) Check for DTCs.

C -- GO TO OCCUPANT CLASSIFICATION SYSTEM Occupant Classification System

B -- GO TO CAN COMMUNICATION SYSTEM CAN Communication System
A -- Continue to next step.

2. PERFORM ACTIVE TEST USING TECHSTREAM

(a) Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.

(b) Turn the ignition switch to ON.

(c) Turn the Techstream on.

(d) Enter the following menus: Body Electrical / Combination Meter / Active Test.

(e) Check the Front passenger side seat belt warning light by performing the Active Test.

OK:

Switch condition (ON/OFF) can be switched by Active Test.

NG -- CHECK WIRE HARNESS (BATTERY POSITIVE AND BODY GROUND)

OK -- REPLACE CENTER AIRBAG SENSOR ASSEMBLY Removal

3. CHECK WIRE HARNESS (BATTERY POSITIVE AND BODY GROUND)

(a) Disconnect the E48 connector.

(b) for Telltale Light (w/o Clock):

(1) Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.





Standard Voltage:





(c) for Telltale Light (w/ Clock):

(1) Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.





Standard Voltage:





NG -- REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR, OR REPLACE FUSE
OK -- Continue to next step.

4. CHECK HARNESS OR CONNECTOR (TELLTALE LIGHT ASSEMBLY - COMBINATION METER)

(a) Disconnect the E46 connector.

(b) for Telltale Light (w/o Clock):

(1) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.





Standard Resistance:





(c) for Telltale Light (w/ Clock):

(1) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.





Standard Resistance:





NG -- REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR
OK -- Continue to next step.

5. INSPECT TELLTALE LIGHT ASSEMBLY

(a) Check the telltale light assembly (front passenger seat belt warning light) condition.

(b) for Telltale Light (w/o Clock):

(1) Apply battery voltage to the connector according to the table below.

(c) for Telltale Light (w/ Clock):

(1) Apply battery voltage to the connector according to the table below.





OK:





NG -- REPLACE TELLTALE LIGHT ASSEMBLY Removal

OK -- REPLACE COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY Removal
