Applicability

Introduction

The transponder ECU on some 2010 model year FJ Cruiser vehicles does not support key code erasure in the event that all master keys are lost. These transponder ECUs also do not support the "reseed" function. If all registered master keys are lost then the transponder ECU must be replaced.

Warranty Information

APPLICABLE WARRANTY

^ This repair is covered under the Toyota Comprehensive Warranty. This warranty is in effect for 36 months or 36,000 miles, whichever occurs first, from the vehicle's in-service date.

^ Warranty application is limited to occurrence of the specified condition described in this bulletin.

^ Lost or stolen keys are not covered by Warranty.

Repair Procedure

1. Replace the Transponder Key ECU.

Refer to the Technical Information System (TIS) 2010 model year FJ Cruiser Repair Manual:

Vehicle Interior - Theft Deterrent/keyless Entry - "Engine Immobiliser: Transponder key ECU: Removal"

HINT

^ Before attempting to replace the Transponder Key ECU, the vehicle may need to be moved into a service bay. There are several ways to move the vehicle, but the shifter can be placed into Neutral when a new unregistered key (cut to ignition cylinder specifications) is used.

^ Location of the Transponder Key ECU Assembly is within a bracket behind the glove box upper dash panels.

2. Install the new Transponder Key ECU.

3. Connect TIS Techstream and register the replacement keys. Refer to TIS 2010 model year FJ Cruiser Repair Manual:

^ Vehicle Interior - Theft Deterrent/keyless Entry - "Engine Immobiliser: Engine Immobiliser System: Registration"

4. Verify that Immobilizer keys can start the engine.
