POWER STEERING: POWER STEERING SYSTEM: ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION
1. CHECK STEERING EFFORT
NOTICE:
Some service operations affect the SRS airbags. Be sure to read the precautionary notice for the SRS airbags before servicing Service Precautions
(a) Stop the vehicle on a level, paved surface and turn the wheels straight ahead.
(b) Disconnect the negative (-) battery cable from the battery.
CAUTION:
Wait for 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable to prevent the airbag working.
NOTICE:
When disconnecting the cable, some systems need to be initialized after the cable is reconnected Repair Instruction - Initialization
(c) Remove the steering pad Removal.
(d) Connect the negative (-) battery cable to the battery.

When disconnecting the cable, some systems need to be initialized after the cable is reconnected Repair Instruction - Initialization
(e) Using a torque wrench, check if the steering wheel set nut is properly tightened.
Torque : 50 Nm (510 kgf-cm, 37 ft-lbf)
(f) Start the engine and run it at idle.
(g) Turn the steering wheel 90° to the right and check the steering effort (torque) while turning. Check in the opposite direction using the same method.
Standard steering effort (Reference):
6.5 N*m (66 kgf*cm, 58 in.*lbf) or less
HINT
Check tire type, pressure, and the road surface before making your diagnosis.
(h) Align the front wheels straight ahead.
(i) Disconnect the negative (-) battery cable from the battery.

(j) Torque the steering wheel set nut.
Torque : 50 Nm (510 kgf-cm, 37 ft-lbf)
(k) Install the steering pad Installation.
(l) Connect the negative (-) battery cable to the battery.
NOTICE:

(m) Clear the DTCs DTC Check / Clear.
(n) Inspect the SRS warning light Description and Operation.
