DESCRIPTION

The theft warning ECU assembly determines the ignition switch assembly (off, ON) based on signals from the IG circuit.

INSPECTION PROCEDURE

PROCEDURE

1. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM

(a) Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.

(b) Turn the ignition switch to ON.

(c) Turn the Techstream main switch on.

(d) Select the items below in the Data List and read the display on the Techstream.

OK:

When the ignition switch assembly is operated, the display changes as shown in the table.

NG -- CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (BATTERY - INSTRUMENT PANEL JUNCTION BLOCK)

OK -- PROCEED TO NEXT CIRCUIT INSPECTION SHOWN IN PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE Theft Deterrent System

2. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (BATTERY - INSTRUMENT PANEL JUNCTION BLOCK)

(a) Disconnect the 2G instrument panel junction block connector.





(b) Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

Standard Voltage:





NG -- REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR OR ALT FUSE
OK -- Continue to next step.

3. INSPECT IGNITION SWITCH ASSEMBLY

(a) Disconnect the E5 ignition switch assembly connector.





(b) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

Standard Resistance:





Result:





C -- REPLACE IGNITION SWITCH ASSEMBLY (2ZR-FE) Removal

B -- REPLACE IGNITION SWITCH ASSEMBLY (2AZ-FE) Removal
A -- Continue to next step.

4. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (INSTRUMENT PANEL J/B - INSTRUMENT PANEL J/B)

(a) Reconnect the E5 ignition switch assembly connector.

(b) Disconnect the 2F instrument panel junction block connector.





(c) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

Standard Resistance:





NG -- REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR
OK -- Continue to next step.

5. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (INSTRUMENT PANEL JUNCTION BLOCK - BODY GROUND)

(a) Disconnect the 2J instrument panel junction block connector.





(b) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

Standard Resistance:





NG -- REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR
OK -- Continue to next step.

6. INSPECT MAIN BODY ECU (INSTRUMENT PANEL JUNCTION BLOCK (IG SIGNAL))

(a) Reconnect the 2G, 2F and 2J instrument panel junction block connectors.





(b) Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

Standard Voltage:





NG -- REPLACE MAIN BODY ECU (INSTRUMENT PANEL JUNCTION BLOCK)
OK -- Continue to next step.

7. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (THEFT WARNING ECU ASSEMBLY - INSTRUMENT PANEL JUNCTION BLOCK)

(a) Disconnect the E72 theft warning ECU assembly and 2S instrument panel junction block connectors.





(b) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

Standard Resistance:





NG -- REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR

OK -- REPLACE THEFT WARNING ECU ASSEMBLY Removal
