BRAKE CONTROL / DYNAMIC CONTROL SYSTEMS: VEHICLE STABILITY CONTROL SYSTEM: C0200/31,C0205/32,C1271/71,C1272/72,C1275/75,C1276/76,C1330/35,C1331/36: Right Front Wheel Speed Sensor Signal
C1331/36 - Open Circuit in Left Front Wheel Speed Sensor Circuit

DESCRIPTION

The speed sensors detect the wheel speeds and send appropriate signals to the skid control ECU.

Speed sensor rotors have rows of alternating N and S magnetic poles, and their magnetic fields change as the rotors turn.

The speed sensors detect those magnetic changes and send pulse signals to the skid control ECU. The ECU monitors the wheel speeds through these pulse signals to control the ABS control system.

HINT
* DTCs C0200/31 and C1330/35 are for the front speed sensor RH.
* DTCs C0205/32 and C1331/36 are for the front speed sensor LH.

INSPECTION PROCEDURE

NOTICE:
* When replacing the VSC actuator assembly, perform zero point calibration Programming and Relearning.
* Check the speed sensor signal in test mode after cleaning or replacement Test Mode Procedure (to 11/2009.

PROCEDURE

1. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (FRONT SPEED SENSOR)

(a) Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.

(b) Turn the ignition switch to ON.

(c) Select the Data List mode on the Techstream.

ABS/VSC/TRAC

(d) Check that the speed value output from the speed sensor displayed on the Techstream and the speed value displayed on the speedometer are almost the same when driving the vehicle.

OK:

The speed value output from the speed sensor displayed on the Techstream is the same as the actual vehicle speed.

HINT
There is a tolerance of +/-10% in the speedometer indication.

NG -- CHECK FRONT SPEED SENSOR INSTALLATION
OK -- Continue to next step.

2. PERFORM TEST MODE INSPECTION (SIGNAL CHECK)

(a) Perform a TEST MODE inspection and check for DTCs Test Mode Procedure (to 11/2009.

OK:

No DTC output.

NG -- CHECK FRONT SPEED SENSOR INSTALLATION
OK -- Continue to next step.

3. RECONFIRM DTC

(a) Clear the DTC(s) Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes.

(b) Start the engine.

(c) Drive the vehicle at a speed of 20 km/h (12 mph) or more for at least 60 seconds.

(d) Check if the same DTC(s) is output Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes.

Result

B -- REPLACE FRONT SPEED SENSOR

A -- CHECK FOR INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS (SYMPTOM SIMULATION) How To Proceed With Troubleshooting

4. CHECK FRONT SPEED SENSOR INSTALLATION

(a) Check that the speed sensor installation bolt is tightened properly.

Torque:

11 N*m (107 kgf*cm, 8 ft.*lbf)

OK:

The installation bolt is tightened properly.

NG -- TIGHTEN BOLT PROPERLY Installation
OK -- Continue to next step.

5. CHECK FRONT SPEED SENSOR

(a) Visually check the speed sensor for deformation and damage.

OK:

No deformation or damage.

There is no gap between the sensor and front steering knuckle.

NG -- REPLACE FRONT SPEED SENSOR Removal
OK -- Continue to next step.

6. CHECK SPEED SENSOR TIP

(a) Remove the speed sensor Removal.

(b) Check the sensor tip.

OK:

No scratches or foreign matter on the sensor tip.

NG -- CLEAN OR REPLACE SPEED SENSOR Removal
OK -- Continue to next step.

7. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (SKID CONTROL ECU - FRONT SPEED SENSOR)

(a) Confirm that the skid control ECU connector and speed sensor connector are properly connected.

(b) Disconnect the A19 ECU connector.

(c) Disconnect the z3 and z4 sensor connectors.

(d) Inspect both the connector case and the terminal for deformation and corrosion.

OK:

No deformation or corrosion.

(e) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

Standard Resistance:

for RH

for LH

NG -- REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR
OK -- Continue to next step.

8. INSPECT FRONT SPEED SENSOR (INPUT VOLTAGE)

(a) Reconnect the A19 ECU connector.

(b) Disconnect the z3 and z4 sensor connectors.

(c) Turn the ignition switch to ON.

(d) Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

Standard Voltage:

NG -- REPLACE VSC ACTUATOR ASSEMBLY Removal
OK -- Continue to next step.

Result

B -- CHECK FOR INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS (SYMPTOM SIMULATION) How To Proceed With Troubleshooting
A -- Continue to next step.

10. REPLACE FRONT SPEED SENSOR

(a) Replace the front speed sensor Removal.

NEXT -- Continue to next step.
