Fail-Safe Chart
CRUISE CONTROL: DYNAMIC LASER CRUISE CONTROL SYSTEM: FAIL-SAFE CHART
1. AUTO CANCEL FUNCTION (FAIL-SAFE FUNCTION):
HINT
If a system malfunction occurs, the applicable DTCs will appear on the multi-information display. In some cases, a DTC will be set due to weather or vehicle operating conditions, this does not indicate a system malfunction.
(a) E3 (in vehicle-to-vehicle distance control mode and constant speed control mode):
(b) The auto cancel function deletes the stored vehicle speed and cancels the cruise control operation when:
(1) The vehicle speed signal malfunctions.
(2) The electronic throttle parts malfunction.
(3) The stop light switch has an open or short circuit.
If the auto cancel function operates, the warning sound "pong" is emitted once. In addition, the following warnings will continue until the cruise control main switch is turned off:
* The CRUISE main indicator light blinks.
* The master warning light illuminates.
* The display shows "E3".
(4) The cruise control operation will be suspended until the main switch is turned on again.
(c) E3 (in vehicle-to-vehicle distance control mode only):
(d) The auto cancel function deletes the stored vehicle speed and cancels the cruise control operation when:
(1) The laser sensor malfunctions.
(2) The light axis of the laser sensor deviates.
If the auto cancel function operates, the warning sound "pong" is emitted once. In addition, the following warnings will continue until the cruise control main switch is turned off:
* The CRUISE main indicator light blinks.
* The master warning light illuminates.
* The display shows "E3".
(3) The cruise control operation will be suspended until the ignition switch is turned off then on again.
(e) E2 (in vehicle-to-vehicle distance control mode only):
(f) The auto cancel function maintains the stored vehicle speed and cancels the cruise control operation when:
(1) The wiper operates in the HI or LO mode.
(2) The shift pattern select switch is in the "SNOW" mode.
(3) The laser sensor receives strong light, such as sunlight, from the front side.
(4) The vehicle-to-vehicle distance measurement is extremely unstable because of bad weather.
If the auto cancel function operates, the warning sound "pong" is emitted once. In addition, the following warnings will continue until the cruise control main switch is turned off:
* The CRUISE main indicator light blinks.
* The master warning light illuminates.
* The display shows "E2".
(5) The cruise control operation will be suspended until either the canceling condition is resolved or the main switch is turned on again. When the canceling condition is resolved, it will be possible to resume the vehicle speed set prior to cancellation by pushing the cruise control main switch to + (ACCEL)/RES (RESUME).
(g) E1 (in vehicle-to-vehicle distance control mode only):
(h) The auto cancel function maintains the stored vehicle speed and cancels the cruise control operation when the laser sensor has dirt on it.
If the auto cancel function operates, the warning sound "pong" is emitted once. In addition, the following warnings will continue until the cruise control main switch is turned off:
* The CRUISE main indicator light blinks.
* The master warning light illuminates.
* The display shows "E1".
(i) The cruise control operation will be suspended until either the canceling condition is resolved or the main switch is turned on again. When the canceling condition is resolved, it will be possible to resume the vehicle speed set prior to cancellation by pushing the cruise control main switch to + (ACCEL)/RES (RESUME).
(j) Other auto cancel function (in vehicle-to-vehicle distance control mode and constant speed control mode):
(k) The auto cancel function maintains the stored vehicle speed and cancels the cruise control operation when:
(1) The vehicle speed drops below approximately 40 km/h (25 mph).
(2) The VSC operates.
If the auto cancel function operates, the CRUISE main indicator light remains on. The cruise control operation will be suspended until the canceling condition is resolved. When the canceling condition is resolved, it will be possible to resume the vehicle speed set prior to cancellation by pushing the cruise control main switch to + (ACCEL)/RES (RESUME).
(l) Other auto cancel function (in constant speed control mode only):
(m) The auto cancel function deletes the stored vehicle speed and cancels the cruise control operation when the vehicle speed drops 16 km/h (10 mph) below the stored vehicle speed.
If the auto cancel function operates, the CRUISE main indicator light remains on. The cruise control operation will be suspended until the canceling condition is resolved. When the canceling condition is resolved, it will be possible to set the vehicle speed by pushing the cruise control main switch to - (COAST)/SET.
