P106B
2TR-FE ENGINE CONTROL SYSTEM: SFI SYSTEM: P106B: Evaporative Emission System Pressure Sensor - Secondary Air Injection Pressure Sensor Correlation
P106B - Evaporative Emission System Pressure Sensor - Secondary Air Injection Pressure Sensor Correlation
DESCRIPTION
*: Name of Data List item
MONITOR DESCRIPTION
This DTC is stored when a deviation from pressure sensor characteristics is detected.
The pressure sensors* are checked 55 minutes after the ignition switch is turned off. If the pressures detected by the pressure sensors* differ by a certain amount, the MIL is illuminated and a DTC is stored (2 trip detection logic).
*: P106B checks the canister pressure sensor and the pressure sensor of the air switching valve (Bank 1).
HINT
Correct judgment may not be possible when the altitude is 4000 m (13120 ft.) or more.
MONITOR STRATEGY
TYPICAL ENABLING CONDITIONS
TYPICAL MALFUNCTION THRESHOLDS
CONFIRMATION DRIVING PATTERN
1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
2. Turn the ignition switch ON and turn the Techstream on.
3. Clear the DTCs (even if no DTCs are stored, perform the clear DTC procedure) DTC Check / Clear [A].
4. Start the engine.
5. Idle the engine for 10 seconds [B].
6. Turn the ignition switch off.
7. Soak the vehicle for 55 minutes [C].
8. Turn the ignition switch ON and turn the Techstream on.
9. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Trouble Codes.
10. Read the pending DTCs [D].
11. If a pending DTC is output, the system is malfunctioning.
HINT
If no pending DTC is output, perform the steps below.
12. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Utility / All Readiness.
13. Input the DTC: P106B.
14. Check the DTC judgment result.
HINT
- If the judgment result shows ABNORMAL, the system has a malfunction.
- If the judgment result shows INCOMPLETE or UNKNOWN, perform steps [A] through [D] again.
INSPECTION PROCEDURE
HINT
Read freeze frame data using the Techstream. The ECM records vehicle and driving condition information as freeze frame data the moment a DTC is stored. When troubleshooting, freeze frame data can be helpful in determining whether the vehicle was moving or stationary, whether the engine was warmed up or not, whether the air-fuel ratio was lean or rich, as well as other data recorded at the time of a malfunction.
PROCEDURE
1. CHECK ANY OTHER DTCS OUTPUT
(a) Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
(b) Turn the ignition switch to ON.
(c) Turn the Techstream on.
(d) Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Trouble Codes.
(e) Read the DTCs.
Result
B -- GO TO DTC CHART Engine Control System - SFI System
A -- Continue to next step.
2. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (AIR PUMP PRESSURE (ABSOLUTE) AND VAPOR PRESSURE PUMP)
(a) Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
(b) Turn the ignition switch to ON.
(c) Turn the Techstream on.
(d) Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Data List / Vapor Pressure Pump and Air Pump Pressure (Absolute).
(e) Compare the Vapor Pressure Pump and Air Pump Pressure (Absolute) data from the Data List with day's atmospheric pressure*.
*: Standard atmospheric pressure is 101 kPa (760 mmHg) at sea level. The atmospheric pressure decreases by approximately 1 kPa (7.5 mmHg) for every 100 m of elevation increase. Atmospheric pressure is also affected by weather conditions. The Atmosphere pressure listed in the Data List cannot be used as a reference for this check.
HINT
If you do not know the atmospheric pressure refer to the Vapor Pressure Pump value of other vehicles in the workshop and check the difference in pressure.
Result
B -- REPLACE CHARCOAL CANISTER ASSEMBLY
A -- Continue to next step.
3. REPLACE AIR SWITCHING VALVE ASSEMBLY
(a) Replace the air switching valve Removal.
NEXT -- CONFIRM WHETHER MALFUNCTION HAS BEEN SUCCESSFULLY REPAIRED
4. REPLACE CHARCOAL CANISTER ASSEMBLY
(a) Replace the canister Removal.
NEXT -- Continue to next step.
5. CONFIRM WHETHER MALFUNCTION HAS BEEN SUCCESSFULLY REPAIRED
(a) Perform the confirmation drive pattern.
HINT
Refer to the CONFIRMATION DRIVE PATTERN.
NEXT -- END
