REPAIRS TO THE 096 & 098 (AG4) AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION
This circular supersedes Warranty Service Circular V-93-20 dated September 1, 1993.
Until further notice, the Volkswagen Technical Help Line is to be contacted to assist in the determination of fault and repair procedures for all 096 & 098 (AG4) automatic transmissions, except as noted below:
It is not necessary to contact the Volkswagen technical Help Line to perform repairs to the following transmission components:
- ATF Cooler
- ATF Cooler "O" Ring
- Multi-function Switch
- Oil Pan Gasket
- Oil Strainer
- Oil Strainer Gasket
- Speed Sensor
- Differential Cover Gasket
- Flange Joint Repair Gasket
- Torque Converter Seal
- Torque Converter
- Seal (common to Speed Sensor and Multi-function Switch)
- External Linkage
A photocopy of the VAG 1551 Diagnostic Tester thermal printout is to be attached to the repair order, and may be requested in support of a claimed repair.
The Volkswagen Technical Help Line contact number, supplied by the Help Line Consultant, is to be noted on the repair order and included in the comment section of any associated warranty claim.
Claim for transmissions replaced without the Technical Help Line contact number will not be accepted for processing.
If a complete transmission is replaced, please ensure all fluids are drained prior to shipping the replaced transmission.
