MODEL(S):

Golf, Jetta, Fox, all m.y.
Some of our vehicles have experienced abnormal wear on the rear tires. If this condition exists, a specially machined stub axle is available for Golf, Jetta, and Fox vehicles equipped with rear drum brakes (Part No. 191 501 117 C)

CAUTION

Part numbers are for reference only. Always check with your Parts Department for latest information.

The new stub axle should only be used when extreme cases of tire wear are encountered. The stub axle is installed to the left rear side of the axle and changes the rear toe dimension by minus 10 minutes.

Please follow the instructions listed below:

^ verify type of rear tire wear (cupping, sawtooth, feather-edging, diagonal wear)

CAUTION

Specially machined stub axles can only be installed on vehicles with rear drum brakes
^ record rear alignment readings

^ total toe readings must be positive

If you have negative total toe this stub axle increases the problem. Follow the instructions in the repair manual to calculate the correct total toe.

^ rotate tires diagonally whenever possible

In extreme cases, rear tires can be authorized for replacement on a pro-rated basis. This must be handled on a case by case basis and only if tire rotation was performed according to the owner's manual.

^ submit the warranty claim after authorization has been given

^ use warranty code 4233 66 000 2

Note

All stub axle installations must be authorized by the DSM or Zone office.
