Sunroof / Moonroof: Adjustments

The sunroof should be adjusted whenever the top of the closed sunroof does not lie flush with the roof of the car, if it does not close squarely, if there are wind noises at high speed, if there are water leaks, or if the sunroof has been removed.

To Adjust:

1. Open the sunroof halfway. Use a wooden or plastic wedge to pry the front edge of the trim panel from the sunroof. Pry as close as possible to each of the five clips (arrows) that hold trim panel to sunroof. Remove the clips and push the panel back into the roof.

2. Close the sunroof. Loosen the mounting screws (A) that hold the sunroof to the front guides, then turn the adjustment screw (B) until the front of the sunroof is aligned as shown in figure below. Tighten the mounting screws.

- Correctly adjusted sunroof. Dimension A and dimension B are 0 to 1 mm (0 to .040 in).

3. Remove the spring from the rear guides.

Loosen the screws (C) to adjust rear height by raising or lowering the sunroof by hand.

Tighten the screws (C) when the adjustment is correct as shown, and install the spring.

4. Turn the crank 1/2 turn to open the sunroof, then remove the crank handle. Remove the interior dome light, and pry out the crank handle trim panel at the rear. Remove the mounting screws (arrows) from the cable drive as shown, and remove the cable drive with the drive gear from above.

5. Push the sunroof open and shut several times by hand, then adjust the sunroof until it is square with the opening in its partly-open position. Install the cable drive so that the drive gear engages the cables. Install the cable drive screws and crank trim panel, and check that the crank handle rests in the panel when the roof is closed. Open the sunroof half-way and install the trim panel.
