SUBJECT:

Noisy disc brakes

Brake noise may result from friction heat and vibration of brake pad materials. Complete and permanent elimination of brake noise is not possible.

^ Inspect the pads and rotors. If they are within factory specification, do not replace.

A reduction in brake noise may be possible by installing self adhesive shim kit Part Number 171 698 993 to the backs of the brake pads.

Pad wear is required to accommodate the shim thickness. Worn pad and shim must not exceed the thickness of the new pad.

^ To install shims, clean the back of the pad to the metal surface to provide good adhesion.
