Fuel Shut-off Solenoid: Testing and Inspection
1. Turn the key on and off, and check for a click at the fuel shutoff solenoid each time the key is operated. If the solenoid appears not to be performing properly, disconnect the battery ground cable. Disconnect the connector from the fuel shut-off solenoid and remove solenoid from vehicle. Ensure the area around the solenoid is clean before the solenoid is removed.
2. Clean the solenoid and inspect the solenoid plunger and seat. Connect the connection terminal to battery voltage and momentarily ground the solenoid. If the solenoid does not operate properly, replace the solenoid.
3. Clean all mounting areas and install solenoid, torquing the solenoid to 14 ft. lbs. (20 Nm). Reconnect the battery ground cable.
3. If the solenoid was serviced only, (not replaced), turn the key on and off again and check for a click each time the key is operated. If there is no click, replace the solenoid.
