Fig. 1 2nd gear brake band piston, removing
- remove circlip
- remove piston by tapping lightly with rubber hammer




Fig. 2 1st/Reverse brake piston/oil pump, installing
- lubricate piston with ATF
- push piston onto pump housing and insert
pump in transmission housing
- thin rib of pump housing must be upward
- piston ball valve (arrow 2) must line up with drilling in transmission housing (arrow 1)

Installing
- install apply shell so that drilling (arrow) lines up with ball valve of 1st/reverse brake piston

- when compressed air is blown into port (arrow) piston must compress springs together
- when compressed air is removed, piston must return to original position

- press piston down and insert circlip




Fig. 7 D + R and forward clutch, installing
- assemble direct/reverse and forward clutches first
- with transmission housing angled downward, slide clutches onto neck of oil pump
- turn transmission opening upward again

- when compressed air is blown into port (arrow) brake band must apply
- when compressed air is removed, brake band must release

- parts are installed properly if groove for circlip is exposed (arrow)
it must not be possible to turn planetary gear set counterclockwise

- notches in ring gear must be centered with parking lock pawl (arrow)




Fig. 11 2nd gear brake band, adjusting
- loosen locknut and tighten adjusting screw to 10 Nm (89 in lb)
- loosen and retighten screw to 5 Nm (44 in lb)
- from this position, loosen exactly 2-1/2 turns, then tighten locknut

CAUTION
Transmission must be horizontal when adjusting brake band; otherwise, band may jam.
