Ring Gear Differential Bearings

- heat to approx. 100°C (212°F) and press on

Note
Ring gear is riveted to differential housing
- drill half way through rivets with 6 mm (1/4 in.) drill bit
- drill off rivet heads with 12 mm (15/32 in.) drill bit and drive out

CAUTION
Protect differential bearings from metal chips. Clean differential housing after drilling.

- install two guide studs A
A bolts from repair set 171 498 088 A
- heat ring gear to approx. 100°C (212°F) and press on

- tighten nuts to 70 Nm (52 ft lb)

- insert thrust washers (lubricate with transmission oil) and pinion gears into differential housing
- install shaft and circlips
- insert side gears (arrow), offset 180° and position by turning

- press drive flange shaft against pinion gear shaft
- press side gear against housing and insert thickest circlip possible. Circlip must not jam; otherwise use thinner circlip.
