Date: January 5, 1993

Subject:
Power steering gear, fluid leaks from pinion seal at low ambient temperatures

all m.y.

Condition

Fluid leaks past the pinion seal due to a loss of elasticity at very low ambient temperatures. The leakage stops as temperature increases.

The improved seal has been installed in production as of:

8/91 VIN 1GNW061881

Passat:
8/91 VIN 31NE026718
