Distributor: Service and Repair
1. Turn ignition OFF.2. Remove distributor cap, static shield, and Hall sender connector.
Aligning Rotor With No 1 Cylinder TDC Mark:
3. Turn the engine manually to align the rotor with the mark in the distributor housing.
4. Remove distributor hold-down bolt.
5. Remove distributor.
6. Cover cylinder head hole with a rag.
Locating TDC Through Timing Check Hole In Bellhousing:
7. If engine has been moved after distributor removal, rotate crankshaft to TDC of #1 cylinder on the firing stroke. Use crankshaft timing check hole (located in bellhousing) to locate TDC mark.
If the firing stroke of #1 cylinder is unknown, remove the upper timing belt cover and turn the engine by hand until the timing marks align as follows:
Timing Marks On Camshaft Sprocket:
a. The mark in the camshaft sprockets must line up as shown.
Aligning Marks:
b. Engine in car; align the flywheel TDC mark as shown.
Engine out of car; the notch in the vibration dampner must line up with the mark on the lower timing belt cover.
8. Install distributor with new O-ring.
NOTE: Be sure distributor drive clutch is correctly engaged with the notch in camshaft.
9. After the distributor is set into the cylinder head, check that rotor aligns with the mark in the housing (as in step 3).
10. Install and tighten the distributor hold-down bolt to:
7 ft.lb. (10 Nm)
11. Reinstall distributor cap, static shield and Hall sender connector.
12. Adjust the ignition timing, refer to ADJUSTMENT PROCEDURES.
