Air Flow Meter/Sensor: Service and Repair

To replace the Air Flow Sensor:

1. Remove the intake air boot from the air flow sensor.
2. Remove bolts holding the fuel pressure regulator mounting bracket to the air flow sensor.
3. Remove the two small mounting screws from the top of the fuel distributor.
4. Remove fuel distributor and distributor base O-ring from air flow sensor.
5. Separate upper and lower air cleaner housing halves.
6. Remove air flow sensor mounting bolts and remove the air flow sensor from upper air cleaner housing.
7. Installation is the reverse of removal.

NOTE: The Air Flow Sensor has several basic adjustments that must be made before final assembly. These adjustments are only a starting point and some adjustment procedures will be repeated before the proper setting is achieved. Whenever such adjustments are made, the final step is to check and adjust idle speed and mixture. For these adjustments first refer to AIR FLOW SENSOR for the air flow sensor basic adjustments, then refer to IGNITION TIMING, CO CONTENT AND IDLE SPEED both are addressed in the ADJUSTMENT PROCEDURES section.
