Distributor: Service and Repair
1. Turn ignition OFF.2. Remove distributor cap, static shield, vacuum hose and Hall sender connector.
Lining Up Rotor With Mark On Distributor Housing:
3. Turn the engine manually to align the rotor with the mark in the distributor housing.
4. Remove distributor hold-down bolt.
5. Remove distributor and observe the rotor movement. Note the rotor position after removal, make an "after removal mark".
6. Remove distributor O-ring and cover engine block hole with a rag.
Locating TDC Through Timing Check Hole In Bellhousing:
7. If engine has been moved after distributor removal, rotate crankshaft to TDC of #1 cylinder on the firing stroke. Use crankshaft timing check hole (located in bellhousing) to locate TDC mark.
Timing Marks:
If the firing stroke of #1 cylinder is unknown, remove the timing belt cover and turn the engine by hand until the timing marks align as follows:
a. The mark in the camshaft pulley must line up with the cylinder head to valve cover mating surface.
b. The notch in the crankshaft pulley must line up with the mark in the intermediate shaft pulley.
Align Oil Pump Shaft:
8. Align oil pump drive shaft so it appears parallel to crankshaft.
9. Set the rotor to your "after removal mark".
10. Install distributor with new O-ring.
11. After the distributor is set into the engine block, check that rotor aligns with the mark in the housing (as in step 3).
12. Install the distributor hold-down bracket and bolt. Tighten bolt to:
18 ft.lb. (25 Nm)
13. Reinstall distributor cap, static shield, vacuum hose and Hall sender connector.
14. Adjust the ignition timing, refer to ADJUSTMENT PROCEDURES.
