RU RECALL WORK PROCEDURECABRIOLET TRACK CONTROL ARM
A - INSPECTION OF TRACK CONTROL ARM
- Place vehicle on hoist and lift up
Front Control Arm:
- Inspect left and right front track control arms for presence of weld (See 1 in Illustration)
- If weld is present, no further work is required. Lower vehicle
- If weld is not present, continue to part "B"
B - REPLACE ONE OR BOTH TRACK CONTROL ARMS
NOTE:
On automatic vehicles, the engine must be supported and lifted for the removal of the left control arm as follows:
- Support engine with support bar
- Remove left front engine mount
- Remove nut for rear engine mount
- Remove front engine support
- Lift engine to gain access to control arm's front bolt
- Remove front control arm bolt
- Remove two (2) bolts holding rear control arm bushing
- Remove ball joint retaining bolt and disconnect balljoint
- Remove track control arm and place on bench
- Drill out rivets holding balljoint to control arm using 6mm drill i
- Chisel off rivet heads and remove ball joint from track control arm
- Use new track control arm, part number 171 407 153D
- In place of rivets, use three (3) bolts, part number N 040 204 3, three (3) lock washers, part number N 042 001 1 and three (3) nuts, part number N 011 007 7 and attach ball joint to new track control arm. Torque nuts to 25Nm
- Mount new bonded rubber bushings, part numbers 171 407 181A and 171 407 1 82D to track control arm
- Install new track control arm
Torque:
Balljoint retaining bolt 50Nm
Front control arm bolt 7ONm
Rear bushing mount bolts 45Nm
- On vehicles with automatic transmission, follow the removal procedure in reverse order
PERFORM WHEEL ALIGNMENT CHECK
- After replacement of a track control arm, the front wheel alignment must be checked and corrected, if necessary
Specifications Checking Adjusting
Total toe, wheels not pressed -5' to -30' -15'
Camber, wheels in straight ahead position -10' to +50' +20'
Maximum permissible difference between both sides 1°
