Ignition Hall Effect Sensor: Service and Repair

Distributor:

NOTE: This procedure requires that the distributor is removed from the engine block. Refer to Powertrain Management/Ignition System/Distributor/Service and Repair. Service and Repair

Distributor View:

1. Remove the distributor cap and rotor.
2. With a snap-ring pliers, remove the shutter wheel snap ring.

Trigger Wheel Removal:

3. Use two screwdrivers positioned at opposite sides of the shutter wheel as shown. Insert the screwdriver as far as possible to avoid any damage to shutter wheel.
4. Pry shutter wheel up and remove it from the shaft.

NOTE: Make sure you don't loose the small shutter wheel locating pin.

5. Remove following washer and snap-ring.
6. Remove remaining base plate retaining screws.
7. Remove Hall sender unit.
8. Reassemble in reversed order.

NOTE: Volkswagen recommends to always use new washers and snap-rings during the reassembly process.
