Operation CHARM: Car repair manuals for everyone.
Manuals through 2025 now available!

Our trusted friends have launched a new website named LEMON, which has newer manuals. It also contains all the CHARM manuals.

LEMON is the spiritual successor to CHARM, I recommend you try it!

Cylinder Bore Diameter

Measuring Cylinder Bore:

Cylinder Diameters: [1]
Standard: 82.51 mm (3.2484 in.)
1st oversize: 82.76 mm (3.2583 in.)
2nd oversize: 83.01 mm (3.2681 in.)

Cylinder Wear Limits [2]: 0.08 mm (0.0031 in.)

Piston Wear Limits [2]: 0.04 mm (0.0016 in.)

NOTE: Mounting the bare cylinder block to an engine stand can distort its shape and cause inaccurate cylinder bore measurements. Always check cylinder bores with the block resting unstressed on a flat surface.

[1]: Measure cylinder bores in direction perpendicular to the crankshaft (A) and parallel to the crankshaft (B) at the top, middle, and bottom of piston travel. The top and bottom measurements should be made approximately 10 mm (3/8 in.) from the ends of the cylinder.
[2]: Maximum allowable deviation from nominal diameter.
