Checking Turn Signal And Emergency Flasher System




Required for troubleshooting:
- Electrical Circuit Tester VW1466
- Valid wiring diagram

Before starting troubleshooting, battery negative terminal (-) must be securely tighted.

Prerequisite:
- S16 Fuse 16 (15A) located on relay-panel OK !
- S22 Fuse 22 (10A) located on relay-panel, OK !
- All turn signal bulbs OK !


CAUTION!
DO NOT damage, enlarge or bend connector terminals or cavities by forcing probes into them when performing electrical checks Always use connector test kit VW 1594 to make the necessary electrical connections.



Preparation:
- Remove cover from the relay panel
- Switch OFF ignition and all electrical consumers
- Remove Emergency Flasher Relay J2 (production control number 21) from relay-panel, location 6
- Insert test adapter VW1466/3 into relay-panel, location 6
- Connect VW1466 to test adapter

Troubleshooting procedure:
- Perform test steps according to table below.
- If specified value/test result is obtained, proceed to next step (test result OK)
- If specified value/test result is not obtained, use table for troubleshooting and repair
- Use valid wiring diagram for wire testing
- Disconnect test leads after each step

If malfunction has not been eliminated after all test steps, replace Emergency Flasher Relay J2.

After repairing malfunction, please perform functional test of turn signal and emergency flasher system.
