Function 04-Basic Setting

Basic Setting (VAG 1551 Scan Tool Function 04)

NOTE: The "Basic Setting" function 04 is used to bleed the ABS hydraulic unit. Use of the "Basic Setting" function for bleeding is only necessary when at least one brake fluid reservoir is completely empty (e.g. leaks in brake system).

CAUTION:
^ Make sure that filling/bleeding pressure does not exceed 1 bar (approx. 14-1/2 psi) when using a pressure bleeder.
^ For this reason, operating pressure on some filler/bleeder units must be reduced to 1 bar.
^ If the filling/bleeding pressure exceeds 1 bar, there is no guarantee that the ABS hydraulic unit is adequately bled.

1. Connect brake system filler/bleeder unit.

2. Connect VAG 1551 scan tool, switch ignition on, and select "Brake Electronics" address word 03.

3. Press buttons -0- and -4- to select "Basic Setting" function 04.

4. Press -Q- button to confirm input.

5. Press buttons -0-, -0- and -1- to input display group 001, then press -Q- button to confirm input.

6. Depress brake pedal with substantial foot pressure, and hold.
^ Pedal moves down
^ ABS hydraulic pump runs
^ Pedal comes back up

Release. pedal; FR/FL bleed screw OPEN 3

6. Release brake pedal.
7. Open left-front and right-front bleeder screws.
8. Press -3- button

Depress pedal10X; bleed screw CLOSED 3

9. Depress brake pedal 10 times, then close bleeder screws.
10. Close bleeder screws.
11. Press -3- button.

Depress pedal and hold

12. Depress brake pedal with substantial foot pressure, and hold.
^ Pedal moves down
^ ABS hydraulic pump runs
^ Pedal comes back up

13. Release brake pedal.
14. Open left-front and right-front bleeder screws.
15. Press -3- button.

16. Depress brake pedal 10 times.
17. Close bleeder screws.
18. Press -3- button.

19. Depress brake pedal with substantial foot pressure, and hold.
^ Pedal moves down.
^ ABS hydraulic pump runs.
^ Pedal comes back up.

Release. pedal; FR/FL bleed screw OPEN 3

20. Release brake pedal.
21. Open left-front and right-front bleeder screws.
22. Press-3- button.

23. Depress brake pedal 10 times.
24. Close bleeder screws.
25. Press -3- button.

26. Depress brake pedal with substantial foot pressure, and hold.
^ Pedal moves down
^ ABS hydraulic pump runs
^ Pedal comes back up

27. Release brake pedal.
28. Open left-front and right-front bleeder screws.
29. Press -3- button.

30. Depress brake pedal 10 times.
31. Close bleeder screws.

^ Pedal comes back up.

34. Release brake pedal.
35. Open left-front and right-front bleeder screws.
36. Press-3- button.

67. Switch ignition off.
68. Disconnect VAG 1551 scan tool.
