Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) General Information

WARNING:
- Check airbag system wiring by VISUAL INSPECTION only.
- Do not perform electrical continuity tests or measurements to ignition circuits.
- Check wiring routing only with ignition switched OFF.

The Airbag Control Module J234 is located behind the console on the tunnel. It is equipped with a Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Memory. The Data Link Connectors (DLC) are located to the right of the ignition switch.

The Airbag Control Module J234 detects malfunctions in the airbag system and stores them in a permanent memory.

After the ignition is switched on, the Airbag Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) -K75 comes on for about 3 seconds and then goes out again.

If the MIL -K75 does not go out again, there is no voltage supply to the Airbag Control Module J234.

If a malfunction exists, the MIL K75 comes on again.

To begin, initiate OBD and retrieve the stored information with the Scan Tool VAG 1551.

The information displayed is used to refer to a DTC table with notes on the possible causes for directed repair measures.

Test Requirements:
- All fuses OK according to wiring diagram.
- Battery Positive Voltage (B+) OK (at least 9 V).
