Repair or Replace Transmission?

Volkswagen of America, Inc. policy provides that if the cost of parts and/or labor of a repair is within 80% of the cost of a complete unit, a complete new or remanufactured unit should be installed unless Volkswagen of America, Inc. policy specifies otherwise in particular cases.

Note:
Whenever dealing with major units, always follow the latest published Warranty guidelines.

It is the Dealer's responsibility to determine the most economical method of repair, the following criteria should be part of this decision making process.

1. - How many miles are on the transmission?

^ Less than 20,000 miles (32,000Km): Usually repair

^ More than 75,000 (120,000 Km): Usually replace

^ Between 20,000 and 75,000 miles: Depends on condition and damage

2. - What is/are the condition(s) being addressed?

^ Single failure: Usually repair

^ Multiple failures: Usually replace

3. - How much and what type of damage is there inside the transmission?

^ Contained clutch damage; clutch seal or bushing failures: Usually repair

^ Major damage; metal throughout the unit: Usually replace
