ECM Matching to Throttle Valve Control Module (Basic Setting)

Engine Control Module (ECM), Matching to Throttle Valve Control Module (Basic Setting)

Matching the Throttle Valve Control Module -J338- to the Engine Control Module (ECM) is accomplished with the ignition switched on and engine not running. The ECM learns the throttle valve control module stop positions and a comparison between throttle position sensor -G69- and throttle valve angle sensor -G187-.

Matching sequence must be performed if:
- The voltage supply is interrupted
- The throttle valve control module is removed and installed
- The throttle valve control module is replaced
- If when installing another engine another throttle valve control module is installed

Special tools and equipment
- VAG 1551/1552 Scan Tool using VAG 1551/3 adapter cable

Test conditions
- No DTCs must be stored in DTC memory.
- The battery voltage must be at least 11.5 V
- All electrical consumers, e.g. lights and rear window heating must be switched off
- The throttle valve must be at idling speed position.
- The cruise control system must be functioning correctly.

Work sequence
- Connect VAG 1551 (VAG 1552) Scan Tool.
- With ignition switched on but engine not running, press buttons -0- and -1- to select "Engine electronics" address word 01.

NOTE:
- The throttle valve drive is moved to the mm., max. and emergency running positions. Then, using intermediate steps, a comparison is made between throttle position sensor -G69- and throttle valve drive angle sensor -G187-.
- The ECM stores the learned values in its permanent memory. Now the throttle valve stops in the start position.

- Check specifications (display fields 1 - 4):

NOTE:
If the basic setting of the control module is interrupted, the cause could be one of the following:
- The throttle valve cannot reach the mechanical stop because of contamination (e.g. oil deposits) or an incorrectly adjusted throttle cable.
- The battery voltage is too low.
- The throttle valve control module or wiring is faulty.

After an abort the DTC 17967 is stored in the DTC memory. When next switching on the ignition the basic setting is automatically performed again.

- End engine basic setting at earliest after 30 seconds by pressing the -> button.
- Press buttons -0- and -6- to select "End output" and confirm entry with -Q- button.
