Rear Axle Components Removing and Installing








ABS system rear axle components (front wheel drive), removing and installing
1. Clip
2. Wheel speed sensor
- Grease seal with brake cylinder paste
3. Axle beam
4. Backing plate
5. ABS wheel speed sensor rotor
- If damaged or dirty, replace with wheel bearing/hub
- Removing and installing. Refer to ABS system rear axle components (front wheel drive), removing and installing.
6. Wheel bearing/hub
7. Bolt
- 60 Nm (44 ft. lbs.)
8. Brake disc

Special tools required

Removing
- Lift rear seat out of latch.
- Remove side trim.





- Disconnect wheel speed sensor connections and push out grommet (arrow).
- Loosen wheel bolts.
- Raise vehicle.
- Remove wheel.





- Unclip wheel speed sensor wiring from retainers (arrows).
- Remove wheel speed sensor clip.





- Lift wheel speed sensor out of wheel bearing/hub with special tool 80-200.

Installing
- Before installing wheel speed sensor grease seal with brake cylinder paste.
- Push wheel speed sensor into wheel bearing housing by hand.
- Insert wheel speed sensor clip.

Note: When routing wheel speed sensor wiring note:





- Wheel speed sensor wiring -1-, most be routed next to brake line -2- on both sides as illustrated.
- Left side must have a clearance of approximately 2 cm (0.78 inch) between exhaust system heat shield and wheel speed sensor wiring,





- Wheel speed sensor wiring -1- (right side) must be routed between fuel lines -2-.

Special tools required

- Raise vehicle.





- Lift wheel speed sensor out of wheel bearing/hub with special tool 80-200.
- Check rotor for damage and cleanliness through the wheel speed sensor mounting hole in wheel bearing housing.
If rotor is damaged or dirty it must be replaced with the wheel bearing/hub.
The wheel bearing/hub with rotor is supplied as a replacement part.

Special tools required

Removing

Note: If reusing brake pads, mark location and reinstall in same position.

- Raise vehicle.





- Remove parking brake cable from brake caliper (arrow).
- Remove wheel speed sensor clip.
- Lift wheel speed sensor out of wheel bearing/hub with special tool 80-200.
- Remove bolts from brake caliper housing, by counter-holding on guide pins.
- Remove brake caliper housing from brake carrier and tie upon coil springs to relieve stress on brake hose.

CAUTION: Do not allow the caliper to hang by the brake hose. The unsupported weight can stretch and damage the hose.

- Remove brake pads.
- Loosen bolts on brake carrier until brake disc can be taken off brake carrier without causing damage.





- Remove hex bolts from wheel bearing/hub and remove wheel bearing/hub with backing plate.

Installing
If rotor is damaged or dirty wheel bearing/hub module with rotor must be replaced.
- Tighten new wheel bearing/hub and backing plate, using hex bolts, to axle beam at 60 Nm (44 ft. lbs.).
- Install brake disc.
- Secure brake carrier to axle beam, torque to 95 Nm (70 ft. lbs.).
- Install brake pads in original position.
- Secure brake caliper housing with new self-locking bolts.
- 30 Nm (22 ft. lbs.)





- Attach parking brake cable (arrow) to brake caliper housing.
- Install ABS wheel speed sensor.
- Install wheel speed sensor clip.
