Parking Pawl: Service and Repair





Parking Lock, Disassembling And Assembling

^ Multi-function Transmission Range (TR) switch-F125-, Transmission Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) -G38- and Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) -G68- can be tested in the vehicle with On-Board Diagnosis (OBD).
^ Output gear must be removed to disassemble and assemble parking lock.
^ Transmission/final drive breather.





1. Bolt
^ 10 Nm (7 ft. lbs.)
^ Installing; see Fig. 3
2. Locking washer
^ Inserting; see Fig. 3

^ 10 Nm (7 ft. lbs.)
^ Assembly sequence; see Fig. 4
4. Detent spring
- To remove, remove drive pinion cover and output gear
- To remove, remove bolts -items 3 and 5- and lift parking lock detent lever -item 10- by hand.
^ When installing observe bolt assembly sequence; see Fig. 4

6. Engaging lever
^ Insert together with selector shaft/detent segment
7. O-ring

10. Detent lever
^ To remove, remove drive pinion cover and output gear
^ To remove, pull out detent lever shaft -item 12-
^ Insert with return spring
11. Parking lock gear
^ To remove, remove drive pinion cover and output gear
^ Installation position: Rounded side of parking lock gear faces drive pinion cover
12. Shaft for detent lever
^ Pulling out; see Fig. 1
^ Drive in with a drift
^ Peening; see Fig. 2
13. Return spring
^ Supported on transmission housing and hooked into detent lever
14. Bolt
^ 10 Nm (7 ft. lbs.)

^ Remove before removing selector shaft -item 25-

^ Before removing selector shaft, remove Multi-function Transmission Range (TR) Switch-F125- -item 16- and detent spring -item 4-
^ When installing, insert together with engaging lever-item 6-
^ Secure with lock washer -item 2-; see Fig. 3

^ 5 Nm (44 inch lbs.)

- Pull out shaft with multi-purpose tool VW 771.

- Drive shaft with threaded hole upward.
- Secure shaft in by penning transmission housing to shaft using a center punch -A-.

- Remove bolt (arrow) and take out lock washer.
^ Lock washer is placed in groove of selector shaft and keeps shaft from falling out.
^ Selector shaft can be removed or installed after removing detent spring -A-.

- Install bolts -1- and -2- approx. 3 turns.
- Tighten bolt -2- to 10 Nm (7 ft. lbs.) and then tighten bolt -1- to 10 Nm (7 ft. lbs.).
